Trapped in Debt
主播大秀 Panorama investigates the companies involved in the booming debt management industry as people continue to struggle with the rising cost of living.
Recent figures suggest that as many as 12.8 million people in the UK are falling behind on their bills, or struggling to pay them. For six months, the team at 主播大秀 Panorama has been investigating the world of online debt help, and looking at whether promises of debt write-offs seen on social media are too good to be true.
They've heard from people who have gone for a particular type of debt solution known as an Individual Voluntary Arrangement, or IVA, and found some had paid 拢1000s in fees, while nothing went to paying their actual debts.
For this episode of 5 Minutes On, Panorama reporter, Lora Jones, meets Shauna, who signed up to an IVA.
