People stranded as UK flight disruption 'set to last days'

Tens of thousands of passengers stranded after air traffic control problem.

People hoping to fly in and out of the UK today are being warned to expect further delays because of yesterday's problem with air traffic control.

The original fault has now been fixed, but tens of thousands of passengers have been delayed or left stranded.

Despite Monday's technical issue being fixed within hours, aircraft and crew are now out of place and passengers are advised of significant disruption.

More than a quarter of planned flights in and out of UK airports were cancelled on Monday, according to figures just released by analytics company Cirium.

Stranded passengers have rights to an alternative flight home, but the number of people affected means this could take days to organise.

Tony Kerr is from Fleckney, but is currently stuck in Munich travelling with his daughter. He tells Ady Dayman of his situation and how he and fellow passengers are struggling to find alternative arrangements to get back to the UK.

A spokesperson for British Airways told us 'customers travelling today (Tuesday) on short-haul services can move their flight to a later date free of charge if they wish, subject to availability. We鈥檝e apologised for the huge inconvenience caused, which was outside of our control and thank our customers for their patience as we work hard to get back on track.'
