Palestinian doctor ā€œI will never hateā€

In 2009 a Palestinian doctor lost three of his eight children when shells fell on his home in Gaza during an Israeli offensive against Hamas. Since October 7th he has lost a further 22 family members.

In an interview with Zeinab Badawi for the Ö÷²„“óŠć HARDtalk programme the peace advocate and author of the critically acclaimed book ā€˜I Shall Not Hateā€ explains how he feels with surviving family still in danger. ā€œI feel angry about what is happening. I am in pain, heartbroken. I don't want even to touch my cell phone to hear some bad news.ā€

But, he says, ā€œI will never hate. Hate brakes me down, makes me weak.ā€ He added ā€œHatred is a contagious destructive disease.ā€

He called on the international community to help the Palestinians in Gaza saying: ā€œWe are not seeking to take us to the moon. We are seeking our freedom to be equal to others.ā€
