The Return of Ghana's Looted Treasures
Cultural, historical and spiritual treasures that were once indelibly linked to British colonialism to be displayed in Ghana for the first time in 150 years.
In 1874, the British military arrived in Ghana to expand their colonisation of Africa's Gold Coast. Queen Victoria's forces blew up the palace of King Kofi Karikari, seizing gold regalia and stripping the Asante monarch of his symbols of government. Now, 150 years later, after lengthy negotiations, Ghana's crown jewels are returning to the country. The Victoria and Albert and British Museum are loaning back the Asante gold regalia, along with other precious items to the Asante King - as the 主播大秀's Culture Editor, Katie Razzall has been finding out.
