‘I’m Miss Cromer but I can’t afford to live here’

Charlotte Spendlove has been crowned Miss Cromer but can’t afford to live in the town.

One of the things a lot of people want to see from the next government is to make it easier to get a home.

House prices remain too high for many, and so do rents.

Charlotte Spendlove was recently crowned Miss Cromer, but she can’t afford to live in the town.

Looking at what the parties say in their manifestos...

Both the Conservatives and Labour are pledging to build 1.5 million new homes over the next parliament - that works out at an extra 300,000 a year.

That is at least 100,000 more than has been achieved in recent years.

The Conservatives also say they will bring back the Help to Buy scheme, giving first time buyers a loan for a new build property.

Labour say they would change the law so that more affordable homes have to be built in new developments.

The Liberal Democrats want whole new garden cities built - and also to make it easier for homes to be built in rural areas.
