The hyperloop - passenger-carrying pods suspended by magnets in an airless tube - has been much vaunted as the future of transport. The technology can enable people and goods to be shuttled at speeds of up to 1,200 km/h. But up to now, it has all been just theory. However, plans have just been announced by a US firm to build a hyperloop in the United Arab Emirates. Nick Webster of The National, a Dubai-based website, gives his view.
