Ö÷²¥´óÐã

Sir Terry Wogan
SIR TERRY WOGAN

Terry was born in Limerick, Ireland and educated at Crescent College, Limerick. After leaving college Terry went into banking where his innate ability to separate half crowns from two bob bits soon marked him down for greater things. Five years later, he joined Radio Telefis Eireann (the Irish National Radio and TV Service) as a newsreader/ announcer.

After two years of interviewing and presenting documentary features, Terry moved to light entertainment as a disc jockey and host of television quiz and variety shows. His first regular Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio show was Midday Spin and, when Radio 1 started, he presented Late Night Extra for two years, flying over from Dublin every week. In 1969 he stood in for Jimmy Young when he went on holiday and later that year, in October, Terry took over his own daily show on Radio 1 and 2. In April 1972 he took over the 7.00-9.30am morning show on Radio 2.

Terry's extensive television credits include his live chat show series Wogan which he presented three times a week for seven years on Ö÷²¥´óÐã1, Song For Europe, The Eurovision Song Contest, Lunchtime With Wogan, Come Dancing, Celebrity Squares, New Faces and Blankety Blank. More recently Terry has presented Wogan's Island, Do The Right Thing, Auntie's Bloomers, Auntie's Sporting Bloomers, the National Lottery Live and Wogan's Web.

In 1993 Terry rejoined Radio 2 to present Wake Up To Wogan and won the 1994 Sony Radio Award for the Best Breakfast Show. In 2005 he was awarded Radio Broadcaster of the Year at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards.

Terry was awarded an honorary OBE in the 1997 New Year's Honours List, and in June 2005 he was awarded a knighthood.

He is married and has two sons and a daughter.

we have not as yet signed up as TOGs but are a couple of Recycled Teenagers and for us Waking up with Wogan especially when he reads yet another riviting episode of Janet and John makes for a wonderful start to the day and Sir Tel, that'll be £10 anymore flannel and it will cost another tenner!!!!!!!!!!

Margaret Eccles, Cheltenham
HOORAY!!!! I've been a devoted Wogan fan since even before I became a Tog - started listening in the early 70's and he's continued to entertain me ever since, save for the barren few years when he jacked in his R2 programme temporarily. I'm so glad the old fool won!!!I record his show and listen to it later if I have to miss it live..... I know, sad. But I LOVE him!

Yvonne Ritchie
There are only two men who can brighten up my mornings - Terry Wogan and Johnie Walker! Sir Terry's humour and banter always puts a smile on my face before the start of another day. congratulations to him on his new iconic status.

So, the old fool won another award. This time the listeners have chosen, which means he'll be totally insufferable at breakfast time (you'll call me Sir Terence, ultimate icon). I just hope it's Fran on news this week; she'll put him in his place!Nah, well done Togmeister. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke! I voted for you when Kate dropped out of the running. :)

Good on ya Terry! I'm not sure if I'm a TYG or a TOG (I'm 34) but I have listened to Terry for years and I think he's a superb broadcaster. Many a time I've had to pull over to the side of the road to wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes! His programme in the morning usually sets me up for the day!

Thommo. Devon
I have met him two or three times(once in just a blue robe) How can he be an icon above people like Nelson Mandela? He himself disclaims surveys so let it be said that he is ok as a DJ but no way is he an icon!!!

dave williams little sutton
he's totally MAGIC

No one other than Tel could have won this award

TOG'S FTWWe love love you Sir tel

Fiona, Gosport
I am so pleased that the award has gone to Sir Tel! I grew up listening to him in the morning at the breakfast table before going to school, and then when I was travelling to work in the morning. Its what made being stuck in traffic and helped me turn up to work with a smile! Thank you Terry you're wonderful. And yes you are an Icon not just a radio presenter!

Rose Lambert....Felixstowe
Its very simple.....He makes me laugh!

Jan, Surrey
WonderfulCongratulations to Sir Tel! Really glad you were voted in at Number 1. Love the show and all the shows you have done on radio and TV. Keep it up please.

Dawn, East Lothian
He's the reason I've been listening to Radio 2 since I was in my early teens (now in my mid 40's)! I love him, he is truly a great human being and I hope to hear his radio ramblings for many years to come.

Risper, Martinique French West Indies
Can't vote for Wogan as I'm outside the UK - loved listening to him before leaving the UK in the 80s and continue every morning on the web before leaving for work. I'm a Woganaholic!

Maggie Marey - Drome Provencale, France
To celebrate their 40th birthday Radio 2 requested 'Ultimate Icon' votes. I felt it just had to be someone connected with Radio 2 and could not understand why so many thought it could be otherwise. I was also convinced the only person entitled to the title was 'Our Tel'!!!!Consequently, it is no surprise to find the majority of the voters were of the same mind. Congratulations Terry. Having been in France since 2001 and starved of Ö÷²¥´óÐã radio, it was such a pleasure to be able to listen to you again when 'broadband' came to our village last year.

rita diggle bowdon cheshire
In 1972 I walked into a card shop early one morning and the women behing the counter was laughing so much she had to compose herself before serving me. The radio was on and she asked me if I had heard this new guy Terry Wogan....so very funny she said,so the next moring I tuned in and have been a fan ever since.....DO HOPE YOU WIN TERRY....

Roger Wilson
Terry is great! His style is incomparable and he is perfect for the breakfast show and without his humour on Eurovision we'd lose the will to live within two minutes! A pure professional!

Moya in Lisburn
Does' anyone remember the Knickers? Maybe 30 years ago? I still laugh when I think of Terry reading the memo from the then DG telling him to 'drop the knickers'.

Robert Cohen. Gatley, Cheshire
He will proably go down as one the best DJ's on Radio 2 - and he still plays music to relax and enjoyI also beleive it should be a joint win with Jimmy Young

Ann Smith, Crowborough
Terry Wogan, is my vote

robert bryant rushden northants.
terry is just the very best in tv & radio .

Sue Dodd
I'd like to vote for Terry because he has been part of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã throughout its 40 years and manages to appeal to all ages.

Steve Haines
Terry has reached out to so many millions of listeners and viewers over so many decades, he is a real Icon. How many people, like myself, have had their day lifted so briliantly by the boy from Limerick? How often when stuck in traffic with the blues, has this man lifted your day in his unique way?Terry is an institution, and who better to have the Ultimate Icon title?

Adrian , Westbury , Wilts
He is the best , I can remember listening to him on my way to school , 30 years ago. My 15 year old daughter is now listening and misses him when he is on holiday

My telephone network won't connect me to the voting number! But, I would vote for Nelson Mandela, what a guy and amazing achievements. Mind you, all the finalists are well deserving which make it a hard choice. Still enjoy Radio2 via the web as much as I can. Keep up the good work folks!

Nigel HOSS jackson, sunny Morecambe
STW is the tops, there has never been an Icon like him.

jacquie roach
i have grown up with Terry he is the voice of radio

Fran & John West Sussex
Terry is the ultimate Radio 2 Icon, who else could get the word TOG into the English Dictionary and make 'Janet and John' and the Floral Dance popular. Terry encompasses everything that we love and love to hate about Radio, and life in general. It will be an injustice if he does not win the vote!

Gregory William Danelian
Thank you Terry.

GRAHAM JOHN COOPER

Alison Edwards,sw France
I've listened to Terry in traffic jams in Basingstoke,Winchester, the A3 to Guildford and the a 38 in Devon. My main regret in moving to Argyll was that there were no traffic jams, and I missed half the programme! So I retired to France and, happily, can listen to the whole programme online, again. When you go,I go too!!

I was brought up on Terry Wogan and Terry Wogan is now part of the balanced diet of five a day Terry Wogan, breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper I now feed my children. His ability to cheer a nation on the worst days and the time he has taken to reach out to his one listener the world is an inspiration to those of us that still believer that being pc is something to do with computers,

patparker2007@btinternet.co.uk
I vote for Terry Wogan as icon.

Linda Cribb Cullompton Devon
I think Terry is great I listen to him every morning and wouldn't start my day any other way. I have been a TOG for many years and am a proud owner of a TOG sticker on my car.

Claire from Wallingford
How on Earth would I start my Mon-Fri normal working week without listening to Terry Wogan. I work in a local Hospital here and I do like his Irish Banter, I admire his good charity work for Children In Need, also his choice of Music Artists from Ronan Keating to Westlife. Keep up the good work Terry and you do deserve to be Radio 2''s Icon.

Joan & Dave Peart, Melbourne, Australia
Terry Wogan was our main reason for listening to radio!!!! We enjoyed everything he said and every record he played. Today - twenty years on and on the other side of the world - we still vote Terry as our No.1 DJ and also remember and love his rendition of'The Floral Dance'!!! We also used to love his interaction with Jimmy Young whose 'prog' followed his every morning and who popped into Terry's studio beforehand to have a few laughs!!Happy Memories - you can't ever take them away!!!

Matt Burton, Crowborough
An absolute legend in radio. Radio 2 would never have been anywhere near as good without such a fantastic character as Wogan

ian nottingham
terry is the radio host everyone else trys to be like but gets nowhere near...

estojo, Glasgow
His shows make me giggle and have done since I started listening to him back in the 70's. I especially remember 'Frey Bentos' from a Julio Iglesias song. His professionalism comes through especially when things are going on.

john humberstone wrexham
A sure fired guarantee to forget the traffic jams, going to work, the boss, just a laugh a minute and great music to get you to work with a grin on your face and a few stolen anecdotes to repeat to your non radio two listening workmates.

Alun John, Kidwelli, South Wales
To start the morning without Terry’s voice is like leaving home with no breakfast, the day is never a good one. God bless him

Sukhie from Seattle
Nobody does it better than the Wogans! I have to say, my mum has listened to Terry Wogan on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 2 since I was a wee little one, and although I prefer a bit of Russell Brand, waking up to Wogan isnt half bad!

Dickie in Cornwall
Sir Terry should be Prime Minister. You can't ask for a better way to start the day. Terry Wogan has been therefor many a generation... Long Life to Sir Terry.

Richard Ashworth in London
Icons are normally things realting to the past. Whilst I would normally have voted for Lady Diana, I think that Terry needs to be recognised as being a true living Icon!

Brenda Arnold
Wogan has to be the Radio 2 icon, although all of the other candidates in the finals are icons in their own right they are not specifically associated with Radio 2. Wogan may appear on tele often but his Radio 2 breakfast show is the essence of him.

Helen SALE Cheshire
Terry is brilliant and I love the RE interloudes if that is how yous pell it! When travelling it is wounderful to hear a lovely voice.

KATE MORRRIS Lincolnshire
I have listened to Terry for more years than either of us would wish to divulge.I love his dry wit and his charm and he is definitely a gentleman that I would love to meet.

Karen Cardiff
Absolutly fantastic, what a clever man. He makes me smile everytime he is on the radio. The worlds a nicer place knowing that Terry is on the radio:)

Helen Pocock - Monkton Farleigh, Bradford on Avon
Sir Terry is by far the greatest icon for 40 years. The reasons are: 1, He is alive - I am very dubious of dead icons, as it is normally see the person with rose tinted glasses (forget their bad points). 2, All the relentless charity work he has done over the years. 3, He seems a very genuine, unassuming man. He gives the persona of being someone who you can trust. 4, Helping me with my busy schedule in the mornings. Quite frankly, if I didn't have Janet and John to laugh at or the other hilarious moments, I think I would have probably killed the kids (and the husband) by now. So I say "Vote Terry". He has done so much for the country and with no controversy. (Apart from the duff bit at the end of the Eurovision thing, but at least he said the name of the better act!). Terry for President of Europe - ha, ha.

pete, mansfield
At the age of 45 I cannot remember any time of my life where he has not been around in some form or other, as a younger me I would listen & think yeah right:o(, but now with togdom approaching I listen & think YEAH :o)

Major D Zarster, DFC, (RN) (Retired) of Reigate, S
Wogan? Damn fine chap. Stalwart of Eurovision and just what we need to show Johnny Foreigner that we're not intimidated by their pathetic tactical voting. The Army doesn't succumb to that sort of thing you know. Wogan's just the sort of chap we need for the modern Royal Navy. Hard to imagine a life on the ocean wave without his early morning ramblings. Bit suspect in the accent department though, old boy. Need to polish those vowels if you're goin' to make it in the Royal Air Force, eh what?

Sarah, Dorset
My mother and I both listen to Terry and thoroughly enjoy his programme. He makes us laugh and we feel so much better for listening to him. He is the best Disc Jockey on Radio 2!. Long may he remain on Radio 2. He works so hard, particularly for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children in Need and I believe for no financial reward. We love listening to his amusing comments on the Eurovision Song Contest. We agree he should receive the accolade of Radio 2 Ultimate Icon.

Robin Griffin
I always wake up to Wogan. A great tomic

Janet
I love the guy, he's highly educated but down to earth, he's very witty, but can take criticism, he's wealthy, but one of us..but most of all 'HE'S IRISH' with the gift of the gab and the humour to go along with it. Go on ya boy ya, WIN!!!!!!!

oh' terry has to be the only radio 2 icon. all the others are icons in their own way but not for radio 2 . life would not be the same without him.he gives my life, and, i am sure, many others, humour and fun, and of late, i have needed these just to put life into perspective. pease do not retire, terry, i could not cope without you. love you terry xxx

Sharon, Selby
Without a doubt Terry Wogan is an Icon. He doesn't flout his celeb status, he firmly has his feet on the ground and the love he obviously has for his family and friends is clear to see. What would morning radio be without his warmth and wit, keep it up Sir Terry!

Gerry Biggs, Solihull, West Midlands
That was an easy choice - the man's a living ledgend! He's brightened my day for as long as I can rememeber; from TIG to TOG! Terry and his madness, his wit & his self-deprecation are an institution. And that's before we get on to his work for Children in Need....God Bless you Sir Tel. xx

Susan Hetherington - Dorset
I am 33 years of age and listening to Terry reminds me of my childhood. My mum doing her housework whilst i played with my toys. I remember thinking he sounded old, wise and friendly. For a long time I thought he was the real Father Christmas!

sian jones live at blackwood gwent
Terry has always been a wonderful presenter clean living someone you can look up to, you never hear a bad word about him. he should be your icon hes the best

Ann Perri, USA
He is witty, he is funny he is from Limeric city. We love him one, two, three (my Grandmother, my own mom, me, and even my two little girls -3and6-)...Even across the miles he still brings breath of home to us all. What can we say but please keep up the good work and thank you very much for helping us to keep our chins up daily.

Nathan Hazel, Runcorn, Cheshire
I was going to vote for Nelson Mandela but in my opinion he is an icon of modern history but Sir Terry Wogan was there at the begining and is still there now. I might also add that he has been responsible for continually bringing new audiences to Ö÷²¥´óÐã radio, me included...Well done Tezza!!

Lyn - Worcester
Terry gets my vote because he is Radio 2's Ultimate Icon who has spanned the decades, moved with the times and now, as then involves everyone, of every age group directly in his shows. He makes us laugh, and cry, and knows how to handle all situations and moods. He more than any other candidate truly represents the 40 years of Radio's 1 & 2. He's simply the best. Love you Terry.

SARA PLYMOUTH
WHAT HAS TERRY WOGAN EVER DONE TO BE GIVEN A KNIGHTHOOD, LET ALONE BE CLASSED AS AN ICON, WHAT A FARCE!!!!!

A true legend in broadcasting. 5 times a week for god knows how long, thanks terry.

Nick, British Forces Iraq
I/we can't vote as I'm outside the UK.But I/we in Iraq want to vote for Wogan. Listen to him on the web and keeps us all going, all the best Terry.

keith . Hong kong
Great entertainer.Nice Guy. Hardly in the Mandela league when it comes to Icons though.

Mary - Glos
Terry is my choice. I love his morning programme, it makes the drive to work bearable because he makes me laugh, and as we all know laughter is the best medicine. He often promotes records by people that are not very well known, and by so doing gives them a chance of being heard by more people. He can be witty and funny without being offensive, quite a rare thing these days. He's great.

Cameron Butland, Cumbria
Terry is wonderful, he has been part of my mornings it seems the whole of my life, he is Sir Radio 2

Susan - Istanbul
I love Terry Wogan. He is honest, caring, realistic, "normal", funny, and oh so un-celebrity. In this ridiculous world of useless celebritilism, sexism and superficiality, our biggest most listened to Radio DJ and one of our most successful people is the utterly normal and totally lovely Sir Terry Wogan. A voice of realism and wit and a human intent on helping others. God Bless you Terry. I can't text my vote because I am outside of the UK but I vote WOGAN.

peter stevenson
timeless

Louise Martinson Leicestershire
I love listening to Terry in the morning he make me smile with his whit and humour!

Gary - Norfolk
Tell for Prime Minister - John 'Boggie' Marsh for Chancellor and 'Deadly' Minister for Wine

Ken Stroud
As a contemporary of Terry I feel he has been a wonderful companion throughout my working life and beyond. He never failed to bring me lightness and a wry smile on the sometimes grim trips in to work in the mornings for the last thirty or more years. He feels like a companion and a friend. He must be THE definitive radio 2 icon.

angie west yorkshire
brilliant!!!!

Martyn Spiers, Burry Port, Dyfed
Radio 2 would not be the same without him

Ann Pointing
What all presenters should be. Can laugh at himself and see the funny side of life. At the same time content to poke fun at the establishment and 'red tape'True ICON for Radio 2

Evelyn Goodsell, East Sussex TN32 5DT
I should like to vote for Terry Wogan. His morning raio programme is a great pleasure to listen to-his wonderful cheery, friendly chatter and the music he plays is of my era. He is not vulgar and smutty and has a good sense of humour.

Sir Terry is absolutely fabulous. This chirpy Irish chappie appeals to all ages and his Janet and John stories have me in stitches.

Alan Weston-super-Mare
How is it possible to be on such a list?

Sarah - West Yorks
I think Terry is great. He's so funny and brightens up my mornings. My lovely dad sadly passed away 5 years ago and listening to Terry reminds me of the many times I listened to him with my dad when I was young - sorry to make you feel old Terry !!!

Mick Finn, Buckingham
Terry Wogan has been a part of Radio 2 for more years than I care to remember and no celebration of the Station's long history would be complete without the inclusion of one of its most accomplished presenters - The Old Geezer himself.

Maria Towse - British Columbia, Canada
Terry is my icon. I can't vote from here but would if I could. Hasn,t Carol-Brisbane heard of the play again service? no need to miss him at all!!

Margaret Wickham, Morayshire Scotland
He has been there since I can remember. He has never stopped making me laugh. I have listened to him since I was a school child till the present day when I make my own school age children listen to him too! He is an icon and we love him.

Sandie Cotterell Ross-on-Wye
Don't believe in idolising anyone and can't say that anyone is an icon but Terry has brightened up mornings for millions of people for many many years which is more than can be said of anyone else.

Fay Dinnes from Wantage
Wogan is a comic genius, certainly the only reason to watch Eurovision. He makes getting up in the morning a whole lot easier. VOTE WOGAN!!!!

Who will replace him on Radio 2 in the morning when he "retires"?! There is no other! Definitely THE icon! So why won't the Ö÷²¥´óÐã let us vote from outside the UK? (Maybe because we don't pay a license fee!!)

Lisa Knobel-Forbes Hertfordshire
I love him, I used to listen when at university and everyone made fun now most of them are TOGs. I can't wait to get in the car in the morning and hear what he is up to, he always puts me in a good mood - and that's not easy! His laugh is so contageious, other drivers think I am mad laughing away to myself - keep it up. Lisa

Barbara - Hartlepool
The radio 2 icon MUST be Terry Wogan. He starts everyone day with a smile and his jovial banter sets the pace for the rest of the day. He brings humour and the feel good factor into many homes. He deserves to be voted Radio 2 icon because without Terry Wogan Radio 2 would not have the audience that it has.

Cheryl Round-Turner, Northampton
He puts a smile on my face every weekday morning. He says what we are all thinking. We need his irreverance.

Ewen - Aberdeen
He's the mutts nuts!

Adrian - Derbyshire
The Lord bless you Sir Terry. You brighten up every morning that I hear you.

Margaret Elliott Canada
Sir Terry directs his down-to-earth charm to Radio 2 audiences and makes them feel so at home. Listeners feel his is "one of them".

Deanna - Rainham, Kent
As Sir Terry is one of radio two's longest serving and most popular dj's he must surely deserve the ultimate ikon accolade. His own unique presenting style combining wit, humour, charm and the merest flavour of sarcasm is a welcome tonic Monday through Friday mornings. I just wish he wasn't on holiday every couple of weeks - poor old Mr Walker never knows where he is....

Carol - Brisbane
I cant text my vote as I'm outside the UK but I want to vote Wogan - Best Icon and institution in his own right!!! What a guy - Miss his ramblings in the morning

Alison Hunter, Barnsley
I absolutely love Terry! He makes me smile whenever I hear him and laughter is one of the greatest gifts you can give. The other is love and Terry has been instrumental in sharing this with millions of little ones through his tireless work for Children in Need. It is so rare to find a genuinely funny and kind person in such a famous position who uses that fame for the greater good.Yes, I love Terry and long may he continue to entertain us and bring such happiness to everyone. :)

tbgb - Grimsby
Without a doubt the most self effacing man you are ever likely to meet. The mark of a true entertainer is when you just feel you could sit and listen to them for hours, purely for the pleasure of listening to them. Perhaps the mark of the man is that he would always be a guest at my fantasy dinner party, even if only to remind the "high and mighty" that we are, after all, only human. Keep it up Tel, the world smile brighter through your endeavours.

Mike Groves, North Wales
Terry Wogan, the son of a grocery store manager in Limerick, was educated at the Jesuit school of Crescent College from the age of eight.

Dave, Sussex.
Sorry; radio presenter yes, icon no way.

Janet Baker Nottingham
I have enjoyed Terry Wogan for so many years the Come Dancing Era was great the Chat Shows Fantastic. He gets me up and ready for work in the mornings and the only reason to watch the Song for Europe is to listen to Terry. I frequently have to stop the car on the way to work when he reads a Janet & John story he has the most infectious laugh a brilliant Ikon.

Andrew, Nuneaton
Terry Wogan is Radio 2.Without Wogan, would Radio 2 be here? Nope.I think he should be the Ulitmate Icon. His wittyness and pure nonsense has given us comical times like in the Eurovision Song Contest. He is a great person to listen to and his contribution means that Radio 2 is the most listened Radio Station in the uk!

Christine PA USA
An outstanding person, only wish you could vote via e mail. Keep up the good work Sir Terry!!!!!!! very fond memories of getting up in the wee small hours listening to Ray Moor and then yourself.

Jane from Stokesley
He is the best on Radio and makes it good to get up in the morning.

Garle Nottingham
I want to vote for him - i dont have a mobile - i cannot text - you are restricting older voters - typical yoof culture thing

Adrian Feek, Gloucestershire
He always starts my day with a smile. I never miss a show on my way to work.

Lou, Surbiton, Surrey
I love him, he makes the agony of the morning school run bearable. He is the only person who can make me laugh before 9am! x

Jeremy Miles Ketton
Terry deserves this and so much more If only todays youth would use him as a role model hes more than an icon hes a Hero in my book!

Ivan Murphy High Peak
The best DJ there is. I dread the day he retires from Breakfast Radio! Keep Going Terry!!!

jonathan nelson, winchester
clearly no 1Appeals to whole spectrum of UK. Ö÷²¥´óÐã 2 now has the UKs top DJs, but he's the best of the bunch. Makes Moyles look woeful. He needs to live (and be broadcasting) for another 20 years though otherwise there will be an unfillable void in a lot of peoples lives.

Angie Johnson - Derby
Superb entertainer. A real icon.

Debbie, Norwich
Terry is an absolute star, simply the best.

R Jones
Terry gets my vote- the best ,funniest, and most relaxed 'DJ' and radio presenter ever, listen every day -the day, week, month, year not the same without him.

H PUP
How could we have this vote without him, Clooney is an inspiration to us all

Corrina Baklish Erith Kent
for me, Sir Terry Wogan represents radio 2He appeals to all generations with his own unique style of humour, quick wit and pure professionalism. He has also helped raise so much for the children in need charity. He brings pleasure to so many with his happy attitude and as a presenter of radio 2 should become the ultimate icon

Polly Reynolds, York,England
It isn't just the radio Terry has kept us entertained by, but the television as well.It isn't just the togs, which for the uninitiated are the people who were here 4o yrs ago its the whole country who can relate to smile at and laugh with Sir Terry.Everybody loves him x

Adrian, South Yorkshire
Terry is no icon he is the Ö÷²¥´óÐã institution (sorry meant he needs institutionalising). He has brought a lot of fun and laughter to the early mornings for a lot of people on their way to work, makes the day start right, hope he wins as the boasting he will do along with the self defacation will be great listening....

Jean Walker Leicester
I think Sir Terry is Radio 2's ultimate Icon because his good natured humour and wit reaches out to the nation and brightens every morning.

GillGreetham, Ceredigion, West Wales
A lively personality who reflects our generation perfectly

Julie in Trowbridge
Sir Terry what a star!!!!Fantastic entertainer, could ask for a better start to my working day.

Sharyn Errington Shropshire
It has to be Terry, He's just so professional and the mornings are just not the same when he's on holiday!

Angela, Ripon, N. Yorks
Is it me? Or has he always seemed the voice of tongue-in-cheek sanity, humorously pointing out the decades' political and cultural obserdities as they came and went. Mustn't grumble... but he's British and a broadcasting icon... so if any of the others are chosen the B.B.C. will be represented by a fraud.

Keith - Marlow
Fantastic old Tog!

Pauline, Belfast
Terry's a gem - he makes me laugh every morning, just a great guy!

Paul Lee in Notts
Sir Terry was there at the start , 1967 working on radios 1 & 2 and after 40 years hes still on radio 2 & whats more he`s at the top of the pile....the listening figures show it . Need i say more ??? Wogan on the airwaves ?? less a radio show , more a national institution

Anne Evers Bognor Regis
Terry is wanderfull, his wit and lively comments are a joy to hear, he is the only person who can make me laugh early in the morning !

Des Derby
He is the one constant on Radio 2

mo dabani Cardiff
I think Terry is an icon of Radio 2. I like his french. Cheers xxx

Julie Roberts, South Wales
To me Terry Wogan represents decency, manners, humour and intelligence, something sorely missing from most of our "celebrity culture". He helps give a voice to the silent majority of Britain, giving some sense to the madness that surrounds us.

Chas South West UK
By far the best presenter on any radio show, forget the rest

Phillip Braithwaite
sir Terry has been a contant

Tim Bishop, Exeter
I was born in 1969 so my first conscious memories of listening to the radio are of Sir Terry when the family sat down to breafast. To this day I still remember the floral dance and who can ever forget the road cone saga? An excellent all round entertainer, the mornings (not to mention Eurovision) wouldn't be the same without him.

Jean Cooper,, Bletchley, Milton Keynes
Terry has a lovely personality and laughs at himself as well as us TOGS.

He's the best thing since sliced bread, my mornings are not the same when he's not on. His down to earth common sense view of life and his sense of humour make me think that life is not too bad after all. More power to him, he is certainly the obvious icon for me. Unfortunately I cant vote because I don't have a mobile phone. Luv U Tel

Angela Wilson Liverpool
Terry Wogan is Radio 2. He wakes us up in the morning with a smile. No one can be too grand in his presence. He has softened the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. He has stepped into the listeners home as a friend that we all recognise and love.

Patricia Gilson Welling Kent.
I remember hims starting when I was at home with my children - I have listed to him for the past 20 years going to work, we often commented when I got to work on the banter that had gone on, my husband also listened and we would relate to the programme in the evening. He is really THE ICON of of radio 2.I still miss Jimmy Young

with his tongue firmly in his cheek, he creates a great deal of happiness with his daily programme, and makes many childrens lives more bareable with his extensive charity work

Missy, sw
I think Terry Wogan shoudl win this competition because after all, he is actually on radio 2! He is a part of the shows and so is an icon which is far more relevent to radio two! Who better to nominate than Wogan himself!? He is the first person I think of when ever Radio is mentioned and I think he shoudl win this competition and become the icon to celebrate.

Funniest man alive on Radio 2 between 7:30-9:30. Seriously, anything he does will always be popular with a wide audience. I listened to him as a child and so did my Father, and his Father before him.
