Where I Play:
I started out busking and I still do. It leads to me getting quite a lot of my work including a booking for a wedding. The people holding the wedding were part of a black arts organisation Evwreni Productions which promotes black artists of excellence. They've been booking me to go into schools and prisons where I talk to the pupils and prisoners about the blues. I find the talking a bit difficult but I enjoy teaching them how to play tunes and it's good to have the work.
I've played all over the UK as well as Ireland and France and other places in Europe. Even though I've been born and bred in London, I actually get most of my live work from Scotland and the North because the live music scene's very competitive down South. Since The Station Tavern in Ladbrooke Grove, West London, closed it's been even harder to get gigs. I sometimes play The Windmill in Brixton but you're more likely to find me busking on The Underground. Sometimes I do it solo, sometimes with a guitarist or my double bassist. It's the way I get most attention - from bookings to radio and TV appearances.
