'Suddenly the whole place comes alive for this weekend. I’ve had locals say, "Could you turn it up. We’re sitting in the garden and we’d like the music a bit louder"'

How I came to this music:

It was very natural for me to get into jazz because my father was a jazz musician. He played the double bass in traditional jazz and dixieland bands so I grew up hearing jazz. He’d invite his friends round to the house on Saturdays and they’d listen to records of Fats Waller, Ben Webster, Django Reinhardt and The Hot Club of France. Then they’d get their guitars out and play.

Martin TaylorAs soon as I was big enough to pick a guitar up – in fact before I was even big enough to pick up a guitar, I started plucking myself. I listened to the records and my Dad’s friends playing and just picked it up as I went along. I’m self-taught and it’s that improvisational aspect of jazz that really fascinated me as a kid. I’ve been playing the guitar now for over 40 years. It’s a great way to see the world.
