Dear Frankie, starring Jack McElhone and Emily Mortimer
Emily Mortimer, Oscar Favourite Sideways and a 70s Cult Classic
Emily Mortimer

Chris Tookey talks to actress Emily Mortimer about her role in the new British tearjerker, Dear Frankie.听Mortimer is the daughter of writer John Mortimer, but has made her own name with appearances in movies such as Bright Young Things and Young Adam. In Dear Frankie she plays a single mum who hires a stranger to听impersonate her young son's father to protect him from the violent truth.

Dear Frankie, certificate 12A, is playing in selected cinemas now.
George Stevens

One hundred years after the birth of George Stevens, the Oscar winning director of Shane and Giant, we hear why the director still deserves to be remembered from his son George Stevens Jnr.

The George Stevens Collection, a DVD box set including the films George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey, Giant, Woman of the Year and George Stevens: D-Day to Berlin is released 24 January 2005, certificate 12.
Sideways

In new comedy-drama Sideways Paul Giamatti stars as Miles, a middle-aged divorcee and failed writer who goes on a vineyard crawl around California with his soon to be married friend Jack (played by Thomas Haden Church). The film is hotly tipped to win an Oscar for its screenplay so we brought together Julian Fellowes, Oscar winning writer of Gosford Park, and Briony Hanson, co-director of the Script Factory to analyse why the script works so well.

Sideways, certificate 15, is released in cinemas on 28 January 2005.
Assault on Precinct 13

Film critic Nigel Floyd examines a new remake of John Carpenter's 1976 cult hit Assault on Precinct 13, one of a recent spate of 70s cult classic remakes including Dawn of the Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Italian Job. The original Assault of Precinct 13 was a tense thriller about a gang of murderous criminals trying to obliterate a police station and all its inhabitants.

The remade Assault on Precinct 13, certificate 15, is released in cinemas on 28 January 2005. John Carpenter's original is out now on special edition DVD, certificate 18.
