Francine Stock explores the history and design of the Academy Award Oscar statuette with actor Stephen Fry and film historian Sir Christopher Frayling. The statuette was designed literally on the back of an envelope in 1928 by Cedric Gibbons, art director at MGM. According to Hollywood legend the name Oscar came from an Academy librarian, who declared the statue reminded her of her Uncle Oscar.
