The brain controls our daily body clock

Body Clocks

Inside our brains are a clump of cells which control our body with clockwork precision.

Our blood pressure, digestion, body temperature and cognition all work on 24 hour cycles, called 'circadian rhythms'.

What happens when these cycles get out of synch? Do humans have yearly 'circannual cycles' like other animals?

Quentin Cooper talks to neuroscientist Prof Russell Foster from Imperial College and author Leon Kreitzman.

Tribology- Science Friction

Tribology is the science of what happens when things rub together, creating friction, wear and corrosion.

Tribology research can produce more effcient engines, softer materials and more comfortable contact lenses.

Quentin Cooper talks to Prof Hugh Spikes, Imperial College's lubrication expert and Prof Margaret Stack, who maps corrosion at Strathclyde University.

Material World in Edinburgh

During the International Science Festival, Material World will be coming from Edinburgh.
