Access to drugs ruling
One in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will suffer a fracture mainly because of osteoporosis. It can be one of the most debilitating of conditions, causing the bones to become brittle and fragile. There are a variety of ways to treat it, but one particular drug听has been hard to get because of cost. Now a judicial review has ruled that the NHS's spending watchdog NICE acted unlawfully when it restricted access to this drug. We鈥檒l be asking what the ruling means for women and men with the condition. Jenni is joined by Claire Severgnini, the Chief Executive of the National Osteoporosis Society and by David Reid, Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Aberdeen. She will also be speaking to Angela White who was allergic to the drugs she was prescribed.
