School entrance exams 11听Sept 2009
Boys taking exams
Is parental pressure doing more harm than good?

The entrance exam season is now well underway and competition for places at good secondary schools fierce. Increasingly schools are introducing their own entrance exams and the credit crunch is leaving fewer parents able to afford private education - increasing competition for places at the few remaining grammar schools. Most parents want the best possible school for their children and many turn to private tutoring to prepare them for entrance tests. But how much pressure are some parents putting their children under to pass? Can exam preparation do more harm than good? Are the parents more terrified than their children of the impending results? Inevitably many children will fail the entrance exam - how can parents teach children to cope with that?
