children in classroom
The government defended the figures saying the British educational system is still the best in the world but whatever way the recent GCSE and SATS results were spun, one conclusion could not be avoided: the boys have generally done a lot worse than the girls.

So why is this? Should it be a matter of concern even though men still have greater earning power once they enter the job market? Anna Egan visited Walmer School in Kent that's taken the radical step of segregating the teaching of boys and girls.
