SoundTown 2008, Alva Academy

The Haggis video

Every year Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Scotland commissions a project called SoundTown.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Scotland's SoundTown 2008 was officially launched as on October 7th, 2008.

For Comic Relief, Alva Academy recorded 'The Haggis' with the proceeds going to the charity.

The song has now reached no.1 on the Scottish Official Chart! Well done to everyone who was involved. Check out how the single is doing on the .

We install a radio studio in a secondary school for a year and bring all aspects of the media to the school.

Alva Academy in Clackmannanshire has been selected from schools across the country to become Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Scotland's SoundTown school for 2008/09.

Situated at the foot of the Ochil Hills, the school is a six year comprehensive serving the villages of Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton, Devonside, Dollar and Muckhart with over 1,000 pupils.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã will base a studio in the Academy and broadcast a number of shows from there. Staff and pupils will have the opportunity to participate and make their own programmes. They will have access to support from the Ö÷²¥´óÐã in a range of areas.

Commenting on their selection, Deputy Head Teacher, Stuart Clyde, said: 'The staff and pupils in our school are incredibly enthusiastic, and we are looking forward to bringing some fabulous ideas for items on the radio'.

Calum Forbes, Head Boy, said: 'Of course, it's bound to be a great laugh and I know there are loads of pupils waiting to speak to Fred MacAulay and get into some on-air debates with Tam Cowan on Off the Ball.'

Head of Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Scotland, Jeff Zycinski is enthusiastic about the project: 'This is our sixth SoundTown but we're really looking forward to working with the pupils and parents at Alva Academy. In the year ahead, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland will have a particular focus on Scotland's History and I'm sure we will benefit from having our SoundTown in Clackmannanshire - a part of Scotland that is so steeped in history'.
