Where are the �� SD channels on my satellite box?

The �� closed the SD versions of all its TV channels on satellite on the 8th of January 2024.

From mid 2023 to early 2024, we ran a variety of messaging on our �� One SD channel on satellite, as well as online, letting affected viewers know about the impact of the channel closures and where they could go to get more information about how to upgrade. This was followed by a ‘channel closed’ message that was in place for two months on each of the closed services.

If you are still using SD-only satellite equipment, you will need to upgrade to HD to be able to watch �� channels. We ran a help scheme for the period mentioned above, but this has now closed and we are no longer able to help with upgrading. HD-enabled satellite equipment is readily available from any good electrical retailer.

As a reminder, �� channels on Freeview televisions and set-top boxes are not affected and Freeview viewers do not have to upgrade – and all our channels, along with a wide range of on-demand content, are also available on �� iPlayer on smart TVs, mobile, tablets and PC’s.

A sun outage, sun transit or sun fade is an interruption in or distortion of geostationary satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. This phenomenon can affect all television services from a satellite for a short period of time. Most sun outages are normally predictable and we will warn viewers via our Works and Warning pages when one is due to happen that could impact our satellite services.

Satellite installations can be affected by weather; it is not uncommon for the LNB (the bit that sticks out) to become water logged, the water leaks in around the grey or white plastic cap and this can result in a loss of picture. Dishes can also move in very high winds so we suggest once you have checked all the leads and connections, that you call a professional to check the dish and LNB.

My dish is broken and rusty, will it affect reception?

Yes, the dish need to be free from rust and intact to be able to work correctly reflecting the signal to the LNB, the bit that sticks out on the dish. Yes, if you wish to receive either SKY or Freesat you will need a dish. This should be mounted with a clear line of sight to the satellite in the sky. If your house is surrounded by very high trees it might not be possible to install satellite TV. We suggest you speak to a professional about the best installation for your needs.

Your location is set by the postcode programmed into your viewing card. If your viewing card has not identified the correct region for your postcode, you will need to contact Sky directly at www.sky.com. This may happen if you've recently moved and not updated your address with Sky.
