Carol, I believe we made a little over 拢450 for Comic Relief. And I am i little confused about the 'end up in Orkney' comment, Unst is in Shetland. I used to live in Orkney and it's a beautiful place, but hopefully I havn't ended up yet at all!

And it's fine to be a mongrel, by accident of my grandparent's birthplaces I could, were I fit enough, play sport for any of the 4 home nations. I also fell into the orange/green divide theologically which is why I am a hymn singing agnostic.

The old Wesley songs are not bad, are they now Hyper-B.? My wife reported me to my daughter last time we visited her at uni. because I sang and participated at the service in the rather anglo-Catholic Cathedral, but staid mum as usual at the very nice Catholic service at Blackfriars (Dominicans). She thought I was quite the heretic (or on the way to becoming one!). Daughter laughed and suggested I was sabotaging the Church of England by singing in their services. Singing hymns etc can be fun. I read somewhere (must have been the discussion of Gaelic) that someone sang Amazing Grace in Gaelic. I guess it could be done, but why would one want to?! Anyway, do you do a passable tenor or is basso more your thing?

I agree mjc, Moody and Sankey had an ear for a rousing tune, I do also like some of the anglican hymns there is a majesty to them and I remember with glee the childrens' chorouses sung by the evangelical mission which came to our local beach each year when I was very young. As to actually singing; whilst my natural pitch is probably baritone my voice control is such that I am obliged by higher authority to ensure that my efforts are not only solo but solitary.
