The place is buzzing. I emerged from the field of buttercups (see previous blog) to discover that the entire island is dicussing the 主播大秀's The One Show.
Apparently the 主播大秀 has had over 300 expressions of interest in its Fetlar feature. The community council has had about a dozen enquiries. Property developers will be moving in shortly probably. Ha!
The shop was busy as normal on Friday morning - as it always is, especially as our local newspaper comes out that day. The subject of discussion was the number of enquiries people seemed to be receiving. Here in Muness View no-one has enquired! Although I have had my picture taken this week!!
The school website has had many visitors & the guestbook has had more postings than its had in the last 6 months.
The 主播大秀 website says that Fetlar doesn't have a rush hour. Well, I was driving along yesterday & had to stop for ducks, assorted suicidal rabbits, a black back gull (that wouldn't move) and ten sheep. The sheep were the cleverest: they ran ahead of the car and then, when I'd reached the gate, they hid behind a wood pile. With a knowing look of "We can't be seen here," they then ran out from behind the wood pile at five second intervals. It was like the Great Escape scene where they emerge from the tunnel.
So, it is busy here!!!

Sure looks like you had lovely weather yesterday. I'd personally love a rush hour that involved sheep, suicidal rabbits and black gulls rather than people with road rage beeping everywhere. Love the story about the sheep hiding behind the wood pile, lol.

We have lived in Fetlar for the last 16 years after working in Birmingham. Our advise to anyone thinking to come here to live is sit back and think is it really right for you, yes the programme made it look idyllic but it was also misleading. Life in Fetlar is not easy we looked at Fetlar for 12months and visited before we made a final decision to move. We are full time crofters with sheep and cattle we also have a self catering holiday croft house. You would need capital to invest in your own business and the ideas to make it work as there is no employment on the island and ferry times make it very difficult to work off the island. But after all the problems we love the island and would never move away. All we are advising is to plan well and look before you leap

I can see the attraction after living in Birmingham! You're so right, the programme made it look so appealing but you'd need the skills to support yourself. Would still love to visit though!

hi trying to find out if there are any houses to rent on fetlar as my husband is looking for work on the shetlands and has applyed for afew jobs there(he is a social worker).. we have 5 children, 3 still living at home girl aged 9yrs,boy aged 11yrs and girl aged 13yrs we have been thinking of moving round that area for a while and did even consider the isle of skye but after seeing your program on fetlar i have fallen in love with it... if anyone as info on property to rent you can email me on shell@rochdaleonline.org

Who is it that decides who gets the hoose? I don't watch the one show, can't go that guy on it, and I was on holiday, but, that aside, can't anyone just go and live in Fetlar? Do they have to pass a test to get on the island? One last point, there seems to be a lot of romantic English folk, wanting the hoose, but my main point is this, that anybody that watches the one show, should be scrubbed off the short-list. Oh and don't talk back!

Post the one programme I find myself in two minds to what the isle of fetlar will really get out of it.On the plus side a population boost , possibly a future for the Isle or will the pressure of living in a micro community take its toll on these new settlers remember its a long winter in the Isles , yes looks idillic on fair July day but in a hurricane force winds with no ferry the picture can be very different . Do your home work bring something to the Isle rather than individuals thinking to use the isle as there bolt hole .
