EEee frost !

A good hard one too ! brilliant, just what the hen coops need to aid in mite control.

Ducks seem to have settled into the fact that they are now within the duck pen for the mornings, they get out in the afternoon to range about. Good to see that they are now even sleeping inside the hut at night rather than forming a huddle against the wall like they used to.

Him has a day away from the mills today, they are waiting on parts which hopefully will arrive tomorrow, so perhaps we can get something done today !

Are your mills commercial (ie a job) or just for you, and how much juice do they give? How many pigs do you have? I wouldn't dare move our pig ark, I think force of habit is the best way to defeat the gales and our small ark is well buried into the mud now, but it seems silly to have to have an ark in every field Mr and Mrs Pig might need to live in. (And if she doesn't get pregnant soon can you come on holiday here with some piglets?)

Nic from Coll

Hi Nic Fair Isle has 2 windmills, a 100kw and a 60kw together they provide all the power for the island (and heating) when there is enough wind, on non windy days there are 2 oil powered generators which come on & provide power between 7.30am & 11.30pm between those hrs most houses are kitted out with invertor systems which charge a pool of batteries during the day to provide enough power for overnight use by freezers & fridges, lights etc. We are totaly off grid here. Pigs must be moved, we've just been using them as rotovators on one of the veg patches , we have another ploughing job for them to do on the new silage patch & then they will be put up in very des res his & hers accomm with ensuit runs.. Oh & it looks like susie is pregs & should be due early march ! both boar & sow are from lines that consistantly farrows in lots of 12 to 14 so we could be kept pretty busy when they arrive.

Are they are particular type? We have Tamworths on our local (kids) farm - the piglets are so cute with their ginger hair and slightly upturned mouths. The adults are HUGE though.
