Friday Night is Music Night

Random draw closed

Opera goes to the movies, and movie music comes to life, as maestro Matthew Kofi Waldren and the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Concert Orchestra salute the genius of Puccini in Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 3's Friday Night is Music Night.Ìý

Glamorous stars, great tunes and adventures beyond the imagination…let’s face it, opera and the movies have more in common than they’d like you to think! Tonight, live from the Ö÷²¥´óÐã’s legendary Maida Vale Studios, these two worlds collide - and make beautiful music.

We’re talking epic movie themes from The Sea Hawk to Star Wars, plus showtunes from Les Mis and South Pacific (sung by West End sensation Tyrone Huntley). And with the aid of opera stars Anna Patalong and Charne Rochford, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Concert Orchestra toast opera’s greatest showman, the man who created blockbusters before the silver screen was even invented – the one and only Giacomo Puccini.

Expect hits from Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La bohème and Turandot (Nessun dorma, naturally), as well as a nostalgic tribute to Hollywood’s superstar tenor Mario Lanza.Ìý
