The Locarnos

From Taunton to supporting one of their favourite bands, The Cribbs, on 6 Music, The Locarnos have come a long way since we first featured them on this site.

Who are The Locarnos?

The Locarnos are four strapping young lads from Taunton! We are Josh Brooksbank, Elliott Marchent, Henry Drysdale and James Sinclair.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Taunton, we all go to King's!

When did you form?

We started writing songs back in early 2006.

How did you get together?

We've been at school together since about 2004, and after doing some covers we started writing songs, as we thought it'd be good fun!

How would you describe your music?

We're a mixture of styles! We all have different influences that inspire our sound, in some places we are kind of Indie, but we can also go a bit electro or reggae sometimes!

How did the band gets its name?

Well, it's a bit random really. Our friend, who's known as "Scrot", was in a history lesson with Josh and they were doing The Locarno Treaty after World War One.

We had decided before that we wanted to change our name anyway. So when Josh told us he thought The Locarnos was quite good, we thought about it and decided it was better than the other things we'd come up with!

Also Locarnos were dance halls back in the day.

Who are your musical influences?

We all have different influences, LJ likes a bit of Michael Jackson and Human League, James likes a good bit of Deep Purple and Free, Henry loves Stevie Wonder and Josh loves The Smiths.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Supporting the Cribs for 主播大秀 6 music was a real highlight, and also The Holloways. We have also done a 主播大秀 Radio 1 session for Steve Lamacq (if you can call that a gig) which was pretty memorable.

Where would you most like to play?

Well, like everyone else, Glastonbury Festival.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We're all aged 17/18
We can all quote The Mighty Boosh to varying degrees.
We're all taking a gap year to see how it goes.
We love Sega Lock On
