This is a beautiful building adding character to an area of sheffield that largely needs revamping. The Muslim community in Sheffield needed something like this. We should be proud of how our ummah has come together and built a beautiful place of worship that accomodates for so many people.

This is a welcome addition to the Sheffield skyline - it looks great from Meersbrook Park and I look forward to seeing the completed towers. It's evn more welcome as a sign of the self-confidence of the Muslim community in Sheffield. As a Quaker I don't expect to worship there but I am pleased for those who will. I'd love to have an opportunity to see inside.

The new mosque is a major accomplishment for the Sheffield Muslim community. It is a big and difficult step to take but it's rewards will be passed down to many generations and to people who took part in this good deed.

Everybody must realise that ther is NO TAX MONEY being used as the council do not give to religious organisations. It is solely the community's money and good luck to them. There is a brand new church opening in Qatar and nobody has oppposed that (the sheikh is also paying for it too). So can people please see the larger picture and how this is good for the regeneration of our multicultural sheffield.

I strongly feel that what the Islamic community in Sheffield is achieving to build from nothing but donations is something that deserves great respect. As someone that does not practise a religion I think that their beliefs are striving to serve the surrounding community and whatever a persons religion this is a just cause to donate to.

The mosque looks great! There are lots of church's so why can't there be another mosque! Pakistan is a muslim country and there are many church's there as i have seen for myself, there is a large comunity of christians in many muslim countrys. Keep up the good work.

It's a hideously ugly building, it has fould coloured minarets! How did it get past the planners? It is a waste of money and far too ostentatious. Why couldn't they have built something simpler. I don't want to see the monstrosity everytime I drive to work!

I think these community faith pages are a good idea, I 've just been reading aboutthe sikh religion and I can go there for a meal if I need it. AS a student you run out of food sometimes. The picture of Azra is very unflaterring, it may artistic but certainly not nice.

It is disheartning to read so many negative comments about the building of a new mosque in Sheffield. Since moving to Sheffield I have found the people of the city to be some of the most peaceful and tolerant in the whole UK, be they religious or secular. Would there be the same outcry if a mandir or gurdwara were to be built? Or indeed, another Christian church?

Glorious! The House of God, the place of worship- The Masjid!Whether a mosque is Enourmous or Small, Old or new, the purpose of it is to fufill the needs & necesities for the believer. If this is done so, then Sobhan'allah (Glory be to Allah)! Yet saying this, I'm sure like me, the Sheffield Muslim Community have been highly awaiting for a Purpose built "Central Mosque". Which Alhamdulillah (Praises be to Allah)we now can look forward to. (",) So far the Masjid is incomplete yet, it is Alhamdulillah looking breath takingly beautiful! The architecture is outstanding, the amenities that the Masjid is intending to provide in the near future,are also very much appreciated, and more over NEEDED...Now its a matter of making LOADs of Du'aa (Prayer) and to sit on the end of our sofas nibbling away on our fingers, waiting for the completion of Sheffield's Muslim Communities Finest Asset! Insh'allah (God willing!) Like all places of worship whetehr it be the Synagogue, Temple, even the Masjid, I strongly believe that all cities need a central based major place of worship for their belief. Unity is very important for all regions. A form of understandign is integral to stop violence, harm, and distress. As others have said this is a very good way inorder to develop a City. Thanks

I think that its about time the mosque was built in sheffield, if you consider other parts of england they have already established a multicultural environment! and as for other parts of the world theyre are some churches in muslim countries! i see this as a great development for the future & sheffield will be seen as a city where everyones religion & faiths are equally respected.

I think this mosque will have such a great impression on how muslims really are in England, we are not barbaric as the media portrays us to be but we are peaceful and loving, we are not racist this mosque is open to anybody of any race or creed, u do not have to be a muslim to enter a mosque u just have to respect the rules within the holy place.

I have lived for more than 6 years in a muslim country, and as a christian i like to preach - i have never ever faced no predujice from the counrty i lived in , as we were the very minority. They treated us like brothers and sisiters and also donated large sums of money to build churches - i remember my freiend and co- worker who was muslim, he donated armound 拢2000 to the building of the church. He said to me we all like a place where we can find peace and bind the community together. I think its a fantastic idea, and have recently donated 拢2000 - peace in and out. Jones

I've watched the building grow and love what I've seen so far. Although an atheist who will probably never use the Mosque, I appreciate what such a building must mean to those who will. I can not understand some of the antagonistic views - in fact I'm appalled by some of them - where is the tolerance that this country needs? Sheffield is a multi-cultural city, as is most of Britain. Has been for centuries. Let's appreciate other cultures and learn from them, not deride them. I wish the Islamic community all the best with their new Masjid building.

Great building and its good to see such structures and community buildings been constructed and it it good for the area, however it seems to go against all planning, can be seen from a distance coming down Chesterfield Road and the surrounding area, what would the planners say to a residential development of this scale, wheres the parking, the height compared to surrounding building, how does it blend in with the area?? Once again the planners do not make any sense, but that is the council for you.

i do appologies to the brothers who put their efforts in doing the great job but i do agree with Naz from Sheffield. what is the point having a hall for 2500 people when ther will be hardly 10 old people reading prayers in Fajar(morning). the cost to keep it running will huge and the world need our money as our african muslims brothers and sisters are starving to death. we could defenitly do with a smaller but active mosque.

There are divided opinions on the building of this mosque, as evident from the previous comments. There are concerns about the costs having to be met from public funds or increases in council tax, however, the muslims are raising this money from within their own community. Aesthetically, whether one believes it is beautiful or an eyesore, this judgement is entirely subjective, however more importantly, with such huge sums of money being spent, will it bring unity to the splintered muslim community, and be open to other people so they can learn about Islam? I'm very saddened to see comments such as "Islam is at war with the West", as it is unfair to assume that all muslims and Islamic states have the same policies and perspectives. The Islamic world has its own divisions, much as people in England might disagree with the Germans and French, although still consider themselves Europeans. I hope the mosque will be a place of harmony, moderation, tolerance, and not least of all, worship.

What a magnificent building! But definitely not in keeping with the surrounding area by any stretch of the imagination. If, as I suspect, it will be mainly used by Muslims rather than other citizens then it is quite right that it's privately funded. Why should anyone else contribute ? As for community, yes it will benefit the Muslim community but probably very few others in the city. I hope it doesn't become a non-Muslim free zone, but sadly I think it probably will in time.

The building of the mosque and the planned developmental activites for the area shows how well we can do when time, effort and the committment is given to invest in the communities we live in. Sheffield is one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in Europe and people from all faiths and backgrounds from Sheffield have prooved this with this venture. Most of the funding has come from the people of Sharrow and Netheredge and surrounding areas. Not even a penny has come from Public funding. The old Mosque played a crucial part in bringing the city together by holding area panel meeting, police and public safety, Day care centre was housed in the Mosque. It was well utelised by the all the community. I think those that have expressed any doubts need to visit the mosque and have quick chat it may get rid of their stereotypes. Well done Citizens of Sheffield! Let others follow your example!

I been living in china for 3 years where religious freedom is certainly not advocated. It makes me proud to be an Englishman and a sheffielder.Whether christians can or cant build churches in Muslim countries is not the question,the question is how can we accept each other in Britain? and accept that Britain is a diverse and multi-cultural island which we all should be proud to be a part of.

I live near the new Mosque and think it looks fantastic. Walk up the hill in Heeley and you can really see how it both fits in and stands out on the City's skyline. It's important that it fits into the community as a whole so I agree with the poster who suggested non muslims should be able to visit the place. I thought the peaceful protest in London recently was a perfect opportunity for British Muslims to demonstrate that Islam as a whole is not a religion of thoughtless hatred and the new mosque could be a useful tool in demonstrating the value of a spiritual centre in the community.

the mosque looks great, however it is important to understand that this mosque should be for worshipping dawah purposes not for showing off. i think it is too expensive and should hav spent the money on other good causes like africa who are starving. More than likely the mosque will be empty BUT the attractive look to the mosque may attract non beleivers to the mosque and ask about islam. it should be noted everyone regardless of any religion should visit to increase islamic awareness. I think the Mosque is very beautiful Mashallah, only seen it from outside. I live localy, I think its better for the communities, going to be lots of facilities under the one roof e:g for elderly,Men and women, children and funeral system and wedding hall (Mulana there as well)which is great because we only have few wedding hall in sheffield and going to same place again and again so this would be better.

I think this is great. Sheffield is such a diverse city, and I think that all cultures should have a place where they live to worship their God, and I think more varied places of Worship should be built, I think they would add a different angle on Sheffield's regneration.

If anyone had any doubt that the islamic community were determined to be part of the British Community here is the proof. They've put their hearts and souls into a permanent place of worship. Mosque (house of Allah) let us hope that this 2nd purpous built mosque(industry road being the 1st)in Sheffield does not stan 3/4 empty due to un islamic going ons . The majority of the Bengarli comunity have moved to a new venue on London road , will they ever returne. As like Industry road many splits in the islamic comunity has seen many mosques have open with empty spaces in them .Please lets us not forget Islam (i surrender to the will of Allah) and all sit to geather .If not 3.6 million could have been better spent .may Allah bless us all.

I think it's good that this new mosque is being built but all the news coverage about terroists and mosques i really feel that people will give there money elsewhere.
