"I found it in the garden whilst watering the plants."

Transcript

"I found it in the garden whilst watering the plants - its smooth face catching my eye - now that's an unusual stone.

Picking it up I thought it was an arrowhead - pointed and purposeful. Have cavemen really lived in Maindy?

With its cracked face, warm colouring and even polished shape - a tooth perhaps? But no cow's tooth at that - a big, pointy, nasty tooth - enamel-worn and on the bottom holes for the root. But what animal had it come from? What beast might have roamed my garden?

I took to carrying it around in my pocket, posing the puzzle to people who would guess the identity of the mystery mouth - wolf, shark, bear ... even dinosaur. The last was always my favourite - the thought of massive lumbering beasts eating my shrubbery. What would the neighbours think?

The tooth now lives in a box at home, but I still like to look at it from time to time and dream of the beasts of Maindy. "
