How is the apprentice chosen?

TheÌýcontest to find an apprentice sets the candidates a procession of gruelling challenges, with Lord Sugar firing at least one candidate after each task.

At the end, just one candidate will emerge victorious and reap the rewards of landing a six-figure salary job as Lord Sugar’s apprentice.

The rules are simple. Every week, the candidates are divided into two teams and Lord Sugar briefs them on a new task. A project manager is appointed by each team and is responsible for leading them on their mission.

Each task is set to stretch the creative and business skills of the individual candidates, in addition to their ability to work productively alongside others. Generally, the objective is to achieve a bigger profit than the opposing team. Making a loss is very much frowned upon, to say the least.

Throughout the task, Lord Sugar’s aides Karren Brady and Nick Hewer shadow the teams and report back to Lord Sugar in the boardroom.

Following the conclusion of the task, the anxious teams set foot inside the boardroom. The results of the task are announced and the winning team is treated to a well earned reward. As for the losers, they are initially sent away to mull over their failings.

Upon their return to the boardroom, the project manager chooses two of his colleagues to join him or her to face an incisive dissection of their exploits by Lord Sugar and his advisors. At least one of the trio will subsequently be fired and exit the competition.

This process of elimination culminates in Lord Sugar hiring a new apprentice.
