I'm all in favour of Mark Chapman but surely you can do better than Robbie "my wife's a supermodel/I've played international football" Savage who will just get into an argument with every caller.

Is it just me or is Alan Green the worst commentator in the world? Often it seems he can't be bothered to do the job so he just talks about how bad the match is, how cold it is or just rambles with his co host. Surely it's up to the listener to make that decision from an informed commentary. I like him on 606 but not at a match, I just switch over if he is on. If this is really a big shake up then hopefully we can get him out of commentary and into the studio where it is warm and the callers stimulating.

I hope the coverage for this will be on digital and not analogue.
While the world cup was on all th estuff i wanted to listen to was on digital and I couldn't get it while driving.
I won't be tuning in for more football. Missed the Rugby missed the tennis.

To clarify, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio has lost the commentary rights to the 5.30pm Saturday Premier League matches to talkSPORT, which is why Sports Report is back to its full "one-hour glory".

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio has also lost the commentary rights to Sunday lunchtime matches to talkSPORT. Man Utd v Liverpool and Liverpool v Everton are both Sunday 1.30pm KOs (Sep/Oct respectively) and therefore 5 Live will only be able to provide updates on these matches.

Unless 5 Live is honest about this situation on-air there will be many confused listeners, wondering why Messrs. Green & Ingham are not at Old Trafford on that Sunday in September.

Jonathon: it must be a very sad life being an apologist for a sadly inept station controller who is intent on leading what was once a good radio station into complete mediocrity.

You have clearly been on far too many PR coaching courses - the responses above spell out pretty cleary the holes in your PR 'gloss' but the facts are simple. Five Live is either losing out or missing out on a lot of quality sport. Athletics we don't want - not good radio. Like swimming. Golf ok if the presenters are good - Bacon and Campbell - I think not. F1 - which I don't really like - gripping stuff, again down to the presenters. Pat Murphy's a gem on the cricket coverage. But Colin Murray anchoring such a large part of the (winter) weekend output - a disaster frankly.

Time for someone to get real or simply wake up to reality. Give me a call - I could sort it out but it would be painful.

hahaha...the funny thing is that 5Live have a new trailer advertising for the first time the number of live games they will have next season. According to the trailer it's 120 games broadcast live!!!!!
Why would they need to specify this number, I wondered at first. Then I realised it's because the have lost so many games this year to TalkSport, so by mentioning a large number like 120 they are trying to sound impressive.
But any half intelligent listener would ask the inevitable question: how many games were broadcast live last season? and then the next inevitable question: why are there less games this year?

I agree with TheIceMan99 - Russell Fuller and Eleanor Oldroyd are vastly underused by the station.

But it is nice to hear Ian Payne back on the station and doing some Five Live Sport's in the next few weeks.

It was a shame that Russell wasn't part of the Five Live team at the Open Golf and instead worked on the telly coverage but he is presenting all this week in the evenings.

Honesty would be good. Don't do what Sky Sports does, pretending anything other than what is broadcast on their channels doesn't exist. I trust that now I've purchased a digital radio for the car, the early evening Championship game will still be broadcast on R5Sports Xtra. Failing that I will be listening to the dreadful Talksport. Either that or silence. I really can't stand the thought of two hours of "I thought the boys done great today" calls on 606.

But.....am I the only one who actually enjoys listening to Colin Murray?

The headline figure is that 5Live will only broadcast 57% of EPL games in season 2010/11.

TalkSport will broadcast 64 Premier League games.

The big unanswered question is if 5Live's Commissioning Editor will commission more Murray? MOTD2 is now a no go, and after losing 43% of games, if it means more Colin Murray, then for the first time I will be tuning into TalkSport.

Talksport isn't all that bad when compared to what will be on Five Live.

I, like many others are looking forward to hearing the popular Colin Murray's amusing and entertaining radio broadcasts. At least he makes the shows interesting and humerous unlike the other bland and completely dull presenters.

I like Colin Murray on Fighting Talk and he was excellent at the World Cup abd the darts on TV, I think he makes a better tv sports presenter than radio one. His Radio 1 evening shows were excellent as well.

David - this is exactly the point. Murray is a dj, not a speech radio presenter. Putting on a CD with 'witty' links is somewhat different to anchoring a 6 hour sports afternoon shoe or two hour weekday afternoon show for that matter - witness another dj's futile attempts.

I still feel Campbell presents Breakfast like a game show host. You need seasoned pro's like Warwicker to give the station some gravitas - not converts from Radio One looking to get serious.

I don't think a good DJ makes a bad speech radio presenter - look at Simon Mayo and to a lesser extent Kevin Greening. Simon is one of the best presenters ever to broadcast on this fine network. I also think Nicky Campbell was excellent on the mid-morning slot.

As I said with Colin Murray he seems better at television sports presenting, I still think he is a good radio sports presenter just that there are better options - i.e. Messrs Payne, Fuller and Oldroyd.

I predict next season if not next season that Colin will give up Sundays to concentrate on MOTD2 and just do Friday nights and FT which suit him better.

In fact is there going to be coverage of the final this year (I think in the past it has been on Radio 5 proper)? Or is it going to be on R4LW (or, heaven-forbid, hidden away on radio 5 sports ghetto)? Or do the Ö÷²¥´óÐã not have the rights?

R% has declined markedly in recent years,due to its obsession with soccer.
The only people who are interested in soccer either attend matches or have Sky.
Yes, a radio is the only way to 'follow' in a car - so put soccer commentary on 5Extra (like cricket) and reduce the staggering waste of money on Premiership matches.

You can also get rid of the planet-sized ego that is Richard Bacon and replace him with someone with a decent IQ, no white powder in his nose, and the recognition that it is the GUEST that is important and that the presenter' opinion is of no importance whatsoever.

Then remove Dotty Adebayoooooo from Up all Night and have more of the quite superb Rhos Sharp, with the 'guest' presenters on at weekends - they're refreshingly cheerful, articulate and intelligent.

Dotty has, as they say, a 'good voice for a newspaper' as he is completely incomprehensible and unintelligible.

I agree about Colin Murray too - accent too strong, energy and hysteria levels woefully OTT and an irritation.

I assumed R5 was intended for a middle-aged (25-60) middle-class (IQ over 100) audience - both Nicki Campbell and Simon Mayo are outstanding, as is the whole Drive team.

More, please, of such intelligent, modest presenters.

The lady who is sitting in for the hysterical Stephen Nolan great. What a refreshing change! And I dare say we don't have to pay to fly in her in and put her up in a hotel for a few days.

I wonder... is she broadcasting from London or Manchester? Heaven forbid she's not in Manchester... how would the producers cope?!

The Twenty20 Final will be on Sportsextra and not Five Live again this year which is a shame.

I was really disappointed by the gleeful remarks made by all 5 members of the Gabby Logan sports panel (9-8-2010) about Scotland not qualifying for the World cup or not qualifying for future competitions, this was in stark contrast to the serious reverential knowledgeable way that England were discussed. Radio 5 either ignores Scottish football (little or no mention of the start of the Scottish football league at the weekend past) or sneers at it as with the sports panel today. Is this acceptable ? I thought the Ö÷²¥´óÐã was famous for its impartiality. As a fan of Scotland and someone who likes bothe English and Scottish league football, am I welcome as a Radio 5 listener or should I listen to another station ? I dont listen to Talksport because they are even more anti-Scottish. When it comes to football is 5Live part of the British Broadcasting Corporation or part of the English ?

Agree with comments about Murray. Use Ian Payne! Also reinstate Eleanor Oldroyd on Sunday's programme. Drop the buffoon Savage from 606 who has beleived the hype and is on the road to becoming a caricature of himself - as in the manner of past his sell-by-date, fellow narcissistic big-head, Alan Green.

There was never a less suitable name for a programme about footballers and football. Please change it to avoid the unpleasant sexual connotation. And whose idea was it for goodness sake?

I was quite surprised too and wondered why it hadn't been named Sunday Lunch for example and then realised that its name was actually deliberate. Pretty tasteless IMO.

What shame that 64 games have been allocated to Shout Sport. Firstly, I HATE those awful personal injury 'no win' 'no fee' ads and secondly the reception is atrocious where I live. So - both content and reception way below par. It's when appalling decisions such as these are made in the name of 'consumer interest' that one realises just how professional and good is R5's sport output.

The talkSPORT match commentaries are available online, on DAB and via the digital TV platforms.

Thanks LondonMark - I am aware of that. DAB not available in Channel Islands (where I live)and my PC is not a lap top and cannot be lugged around with me (ditto my TV) so I rely on a normal portable radio when in and out of the house.

Listening to the Man U v Newcastle commentary last evening was I alone in wondering what on earth Robbie Savage is doing on Five Live? He certainly has the face for radio but not the voice - a thin,tinny whine. He has absolutely nothing to contribute and thinks he's funny. He's not.

Why not David Pleat or an acknowledged manager/pundit alongside the commentator rather than this light weight, washed up, not very good nearly ex pro?

Five Live on occasion just gets it so wrong.

He spends most of his time commenting on or laughing at players' appearances. Like Claridge he's another apologist for footballers and won't hear a word of criticism against them, particularly if they're your Welsh team mate.

You're not alone, Jackstumps. Savage is obviously thought of as controversial/edgy by whoever decides these things. Unfortunately, he's also thin-skinned (almost as translucent as Alan Green); aggressive; immature; a believer in his over-hyped status and an aural disaster.

For many years 5Live Sport has been the cornerstone of the station. At the very time the station is losing rights, like the EPL, it choses to dumb down it's coverage compromising its superior punditry with vacuous personality-driven sports programming.

Clearly after changing the sound of the weekday lineup Mr Van Klaveren and Mr Wall have moved to the sport department. The introduction of Savage, the relegation of people like Henry Winter and the accession of people like Helen Skelton to cover the Wimbledon fortnight are an early taste of what seems to be a deliberate move to take 5Live Sport downmarket and lightweight.

Such a shame. The sports schedule is saving the station at the moment.

Just seen an ad on TV, lots of people listening to the radio, all with T shirts bearing the 5Live logo, and the strap line is "unrivalled coverage of the new season". Surely that should read "unrivalled coverage of the bits we managed to buy for the new season, but the rest is somewhere else on the radio". Trades Description Act, the ad department at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã had better be careful.

It appears that 5 Live are now pretending that talkSPORT's matches don't exist when they give the sports bulletins on the weekend breakfast shows.

This morning we had "Fulham play Man Utd later today - full commentary on 5 Live" but no mention of Newcastle v Aston Villa (for which 5 Live don't have the commentary rights).

On the Ö÷²¥´óÐã News Channel weather forecasts last night they gave the weather conditions for Fulham today but no mention of Villa Park.

Surely we should expect better from the Ö÷²¥´óÐã?

I sent in a text to the Breakfast programme this morning saying the same thing! It is as if Villa and Newcastle's match doesn't even exist, it wasn't even previewed.

By the way, I saw in the paper that Helen Skelton is refusing to go to Salford with Blue Peter, she is waiting to see if she gets job offers .............expect her as a new fixture on Five Live folks. Get used to that radio voice.

She goes in the Room 101 for voices, along with Murray, Nolan and Paterson.

You also forgot Rachel Burden. Excruciating voice - sounds as if needs to have a damn good cough to clear whatever is lurking on her vocal chords...

She's certainly cursed with that voice but it actually doesn't bother me, probably because what comes out is intelligible, articulate and intelligent. She's one of the 5live good guys and far more genuine than Logan and Derbyshire.

1.12pm Sunday... just turned on 5Live. Colin Murray is on. Some rubbish about shaving off mostaches. Immediately googled Talksport to get the frequency in London and retune.

Mention in dispatches for Colin Murray in today's Sunday Times for his interview of one of England's women's rugby World Cup team.

Ditto Murray and comments in the Times today, Giles Smith column. As far as that interview with the rugby player, apparently sexism and stereotyping run deep in Murray's veins, except as he always laughs after saying these type of comments, he gets away with it. His trailers are some of the worst ever, and Fighting Talk became a shadow of its original when he took over.

Last night (Tuesday) I was intently listening in after 10.00pm to the extra time/shoot outs etc - all tense stuff for a keen footie follower. Mark Pougatch decides to conduct an 'interview' with a person of indeterminate sex from Scunthorpe. Nothing against Scunthorpe but Pougatch needs shooting for agreeing to do it and as for his producer !!!!! Another example of poor journalistic judgement. But when you look at those in charge ... any surprise?

It just gets worse and worse.

Up date to Wednesday. After the Spurs game Pougatch had a number of 'football people' in the studio who's opinions would have been good. But no, 'let's hear your views'. He crosses to some Larnden geezer who seems to be having problems with the English language and then engages him in totally meaningless, uninformed 'conversation'. Do they set these up in advance? They cannot possibly be spontaneous.

This is local radio output of the worst quality. They have a potential jewel of a radio station here that is being dragged lower and lower by the obsession with listener input. Cheap, nasty, very poor programming that really does not belong on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. Anywhere.

I think Colin Murray talks too often and very inappropriately about putting bets on sporting occasions, and drinking at them. If he isn't talking about himself on these subjects, he is speculating about others doing the same.
