As the clocks go back this weekend and we say goodbye to British Summer Time, the weather is going to take a rather . With a storm approaching on Sunday night there could well be some significant impacts and disruption to your Monday morning.
has already issued an Amber early warning for much of southern England and south Wales. This warns you to 鈥榖e prepared鈥� for disruption such as minor structural damage, trees falling, potential for localised interruptions to power and travel problems.
Although not actually fully formed yet, forecast models are showing increasing confidence of this storm and that gives us some cause for concern.
Current forecasts suggest that we could see damaging wind gusts over 80mph along southern coasts and winds of 60-70mph further inland.
Further north across England and Wales, Yellow 鈥榖e aware鈥� early warnings are in force as it鈥檒l also be very windy with gales or severe gales.
The other feature of this storm will be a band of heavy rain moving north east across England and Wales and this could lead to some problems with flooding. Especially with the combination of broken branches and falling leaves blocking up some drains and gutters.
The storm hasn鈥檛 actually developed yet but with the advances of weather forecasting computer models over the decades we have confidence that certain events in the atmosphere will come together at the right time to produce a storm over the Atlantic on Saturday morning.
As always, the weather is a finely balanced thing and because of that there is some uncertainty of the exact track and intensity of this storm, and that may make a difference to the conditions where you live.
Forecasters at the Met Office will be keeping a very close eye on the latest computer models, satellite imagery and weather observations in the Atlantic over the next 48 hours. They will be making adjustments to the expected weather for your area and refining the weather warnings as necessary.聽
