In this series of posts, we've drawn together a thorough (but not exhaustive) list of broadcasting highlights from across the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. We'll be doing this every week, around 3-5pm on Fridays.Ìý

It’s a big - if late - day for football tomorrow (Saturday) and we have all the action fromÌýÌý(10.20pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã One, and 11.00pm on Radio 5 Live) at the Arena Amazonia in Manaus.Ìý

World Cup Music

Throughout the World Cup, 6 Music will be celebrating the music and culture of South America:Ìý

Ìý(3.00pm, Saturday) takes a musical journey from Brazilian samba to Venezuelan merengue via tango, bossa nova and bachata.


Ìý(8.00pm, Sunday) looks at the Brazilian counter-culture movement, Tropicália.Ìý

Ìý(10.00am, Sunday) is joined by Brazilian music aficionado, Jody Gillett.Ìý

Ìý(1.00pm, Sunday) looks at the country’s two passions of music and football. Ìý

On Radio 2,ÌýÌý(10.00pm, Tuesday) takes us on a tour of Brazilian music history from the birth of the samba to punk rockers in Sao Paulo, including music from the favelas as well as big artists.

World War OneÌý

To mark the 100thÌýanniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, historian Heather Jones tackles the familiar image of a war centred on a static front line in Northern Europe inÌýÌý(9.00am, Saturday, World Service).Ìý

Ìýis at the River Mersey Festival in Liverpool this weekend, and we have a range ofÌýÌýexclusives with a series of short filmsÌýÌý(Thursday) includingÌý,Ìý, andÌý.Ìý

We haveÌýÌý(9.00pm, Wednesday, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Three) which explores the country’s heroin addiction and follows two young addicts - Jawad and Babrak - as they try to kick their habits and get their lives back together in a country ravaged by war, poverty and hard drugs.

Tune into Radio 4’sÌý, a series of new dramas exploring contemporary takes on future dystopias including Ray Bradbury'sÌýÌý(2.30pm, Saturday) starring Derek Jacobi and Hayley Atwell, and Tao Lin's curious tale about a prisoner in 2042 who depicts a society addicted to sleep inÌýÌý(12.30am, Sunday).Ìý

You can also hear works by new writers in Radio 4’sÌýÌýÌýwhich begins this week withÌýÌý(7.45pm, Sunday), about a 21-year-old woman who leaves her childhood home in Manchester for a new job in Southampton in the early Eighties…Ìý

Don’t missÌýÌý(8.00pm, tonight, Radio 2) which is dedicated to Tony Blackburn who celebrates 50 years on the airwaves, and on Thursday the broadcaster speaks toÌýÌý(10.00pm, Thursday, Radio 2) as his portrait is painted…ÌýeÌý(9.00pm, Thursday, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two) follows the TV chef as she traces her own personal story in foster care…Ìý

Radio 2 celebrates art and painting with a week of special programming:Ìý

Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss shares her extraordinary life story with Michael Berkeley in Radio 3’sÌýÌý(12.00pm, Sunday). ÌýÌý

As part of Radio 2’s Guitar Season the flamenco guitaristÌýÌý(10.00pm, Monday) goes on a personal journey to explore how the religion and music of southern Spain have come together to create one of the most infectious sounds of world music. ÌýÌý
