Make it Digital Roadshow Plymouth

Make it Digital was launched back in March by Tony Hall, the 主播大秀 Director-General, with the aim of inspiring a new generation to get creative with coding, programming and digital technology. Since then, TV and radio programmes and digital content to do just that have reached tens of millions of people across the UK.

The 主播大秀 Make it Digital Traineeships  are underway across Scotland, Wales and England – a partnership to help unemployed young people gain some of the skills they need to fill the digital jobs of today and tomorrow. We always wanted to embed the Traineeships in communities across the country and I had the pleasure of speaking to the first Welsh graduates in Cardiff last week. It was so inspiring to see the talent and enthusiasm emerging from this initiative, and how their new skills have opened doors to exciting careers whilst providing a real benefit to British businesses.

We’ve also been (pictured top), helping build the nation’s digital skills through a series of free events involving popular TV programmes such as Doctor Who and Weather. It’s been a huge success, reaching 134,000 people in 13 different locations across the UK.

Last week saw the launch of another really important initiative as part of Make it Digital: the .  It’s a chance for all our audiences to join the conversation about our national obsession.  Weather Watchers is a 主播大秀 site for everyone to record the weather where they are and upload their photos. Some of those photos are making it onto 主播大秀 weather reports. It adds up to a crowd-sourced map showing the fascinating variations of the British weather right across the UK.  It’s fun, and easy to use for most. But we want to make sure Weather Watchers is for everyone - and that includes some people who may feel less confident in the digital world. So Make it Digital has announced a partnership with the libraries across England – where there’s one to one help for those who’d like it to create their weather reports and upload their photos.

The 主播大秀 is committed to bringing the benefits of emerging technologies to all our audiences and that’s why we are a partner of Go ON UK, the organisation to improve digital skills across the UK. Their Digital Exclusion heatmap, launched last month, shows where in the UK people are most likely to lack those skills.

And finally, we played a part in this year’s Children in Need, which raised an incredible £37,100,687. In the build up to the big event we launched  encouraging everyone to create, rather than only play, one gigantic game. Using big brands like this to inspire digital creativity is a great example of what Make it Digital has been all about. And we aren’t quite finished yet, as we are working hard with partners to deliver the 主播大秀 micro:bit to all Year 7s or equivalent across the UK in the New Year – a landmark project to help create a new generation of technology and digital pioneers in this country.
