Things That Make You Go Hum #12
Is there a rule that these should be old tracks? Specifically, forgotten gems?
Probably, but I don't care. I'm dying to spread the word about this...
We already knew about the wonderment that is the touch ofÌý. TheirÌýÌýis one of the tracks of the year for me while their production on Ìýhas deservedly earned them some serious chart action. But this Ìýremix stands out because it sounds like nothing else I can think of just at the moment.
It's dubstep, with that typical 70/140bpm kick that seems to drag a little, but is in actual fact completely sucking you in. But it's also rammed full of enormous guitar riffage and, unlike any dubstep record of note, could be performed live very easily by a four-piece rock act.Ìý
It actually sounds a bit like Ìýif they had a lady take to the mic before just chilling out for five bleedin' minutes to let the beats breathe a tiny bit. It's something they should consider.
and has made me want to find out more about - a Nigerian/German MC who has toured with Gnarls Barkley (apparently). Maybe I should have known all about her before now, but ya can't win 'em all. An initial snoop about her myspace reveals a pretty impressive collection of Roots-esque, soulful hip hop. That's the next hour or two sorted, then...
NB - credit to a friend of mine for the tip-off on this tune - she knows who she is!!

He has a few of them, as well as some deeper, more atmospheric stuff. His last album Repercussions comes with an extra CD of singles, most of which are jump-up bangers. Good shit if you're in the mood.
