Chattering Classes #15 - The Hovercraft Pirates
Yet another decent export from the North West, pop punk renegades have been up to all sorts recently - putting out a second album, picking up rave reviews in rock mags, organizing tours and generally making the most of a move to London.
Singer Paul Blue goes underground to chat with our Rigsy...
Please note: this interview is published exactly as it took place on MSN (other instant messenger services are available) - we're afraid Rigsy's grammar and spelling just really are that bad :-(

2:25pm Paul says: wahey!
Look at us and our technology!
2:30pm Paul says: You alive man
2:31pm
Rigsy says: yes! sorry didn't see ya there ;-)
2:31pm Paul says:
haha, no worries dude
2:31pm Rigsy says: right. lets do this.
where are ya and what can you see around you?
2:32pm Paul says:
Im in a basement in london. I see midgets, dead souls of pirates past
and 3 guitars with not enough strings
2:32pm Rigsy says: thats
good usually it's just 'i'm in work, i can see this guy i don't like and
a half eaten muffin'
2:32pm Paul says: haha
2:32pm Rigsy
says: are you based in london? are the band all over there?
2:33pm
Paul says: We sure are, based near camden because we thought they were
cool. but we dont do the poses right
2:33pm Rigsy says: are youz
not willing to work on yuor poses?
2:34pm Paul says: not to the
degree of whats expected from us. we dont even have hair straighteners,
which is something Ive found seems to be a necessity
2:34pm
Rigsy says: do youz want to make it or not!?
2:35pm Paul says:
Were tryin! I mean, all proceeds from this album are going on new
outfits, skinny jeans. We have big plans
2:35pm Rigsy says: are
HP a professional band then - are youz all pretty much doing this as
your job at the moment?
2:36pm Paul says: Half and half I guess.
We are.. but in order to do that we have jobs aswell. To keep us alive
and fed.
2:37pm Rigsy says: of course. whats it like being a band
in london? finding practice spaces, gigs etc - is it fun or a total
melt?
2:38pm Paul says: Its hard t steal a boat on the thames and
get away with it
2:37pm Paul says: Its incredible, there are so
many options and you have so many opportunities. Its quite easy to get
lost in it but its till great fun!
2:38pm Rigsy says: where's
home in northern ireland?
2:38pm Paul says: Portstewart bboooii!
2:39pm
Rigsy says: ha ha, the musical capital of the north. so the 2nd album
is out now, tell us why people need it in there lives :-)
2:41pm
Paul says: I can some that up quite easy. Heavy drop D songs with
trumpet? Alice Cooper? 12 string pirate jigs? People who havent heard it
simply wont understand
2:42pm Paul says: Weve broken the moulds
of everything in the past with it. Even with Patrick Trolans producing,
we ripped everything to pieces on this album and it needs to be heard.
simple!
2:42pm Rigsy says: nicely put :-) what about the summer
then, what you bois got planned?
2:45pm Paul says: We just
recorded our video for Shut the Hell Up in a green room so thats goin to
be hittin tvs mid July and its going to be an epic journey for peoples
eyes. As soon as that hits were on a uk tour and were tryin to make it
back there for our first home gig in more than 9 months!
2:46pm
Rigsy says: wow!
2:46pm Paul says: Of course we have a million
other things planned, something were cooking up with our sponsors
2:46pm
Rigsy says: wheres the tour going to take you?
2:47pm Paul says:
Were going to to do England scotland and wales in a big circle hitting
pretty much everywhere.. then shoot over there for a couple and
concentrate on dates further away so that we can get this sun tan to go
with our poses and nice new shirts!
2:47pm Rigsy says: any
festivals?
2:49pm Paul says: none as of yet, weve had some talks
but I think its too late to make it over there for any because we havent
had time to nail it down around what were doing here and you have to be
months ahead :(
2:49pm Rigsy says: well it all sounds amazing
regardless. i'll let you get back to whatever it was you were diongf in
your basement :-o thansk for chatting!
2:50pm Paul says:
cheers man
