Tweesurgence - The Return Of Twee?
For a moment I thought Twee had died, lost in the fickle world of modern, trendy music. no longer turn up at every festival, ... well... are they even still together? And its been a while since we've heard the family friendly numbers of our old chums, .
But the thing is, I hadn't noticed the absence of twee in my life, until I clicked on a video for what could be the new face of the genre - . Have I had twee withdrawl?! How have I forgotten about that unique feeling only Twee Pop can give you - the simultaneous smile/vomit reaction as your body is confused by the extreme chipper tone and tackles with its need to revolt.
This just might be the year of the Twee Resurgence though - the Tweesurgence as the history books might call it (sorry). , aka The Godfathers, are even calling upon the twee twibes to gather at Butlins (apt) this December for their specially curated ATP festival. Who's on the bill? Well a little Apples In Stereo, Teenage Fanclub, Vaselines, and more....
But perhaps Twee just left MY life, as opposed to disappearing. Perhaps I blocked it out. Maybe I just needed a break from all that happiness for a bit. I even put down the glockenspiel mallets myself. And I'm not sure I'm ready to resume that relationship. But the sun is out, the cardigans are back and twee is rising from it's quiet nap. Is it Twee Time? Oh dear.
