SuggestiON-AIR: Who do you want to see at Electric Picnic?

Post categories:

ATL | 15:34 UK time, Monday, 30 August 2010

The Summer is ready for shut down and Autumn isÌýadvancing like a rusty whirlwind. That means festival season is nearly over for another year, leaving us to hibernate in our attics with our sunglasses and deck chairs until another plethora of festivals roll around.

We do, however have one huge Irish festival left in the form of Electric Picnic. This weekend thousands will descend on Stradbally Co.Laois with the intention of getting their well oiled heels rocked. Who do you want to see at this years festival?

Let us know your pick by shouting us here, on or on and we will give y'all a shout on the show tonight...

Rigsy - ATL Presenter

It's weird that I didn't develop a complete infatuation with Eels until this year - they always made the type of music I love. ButIt took reading Mark Everett's incredible autobiography to properly introduce me to their always quirky yet completely varied back catalogue. So finally catching them at EP on the back of a few months spent immersed in their music will be nothing shy of an absolute treat, even if they apparently aren't playing early hits like 'Novocaine for the Soul' or my favourite Eels track (and one of my favourite tracks by anyone) the heartbreaking 'It's a M*'.

Amy McGarrigle - ATL Producer

I never heard of Liquid Liquid until they were announced for EP and the ATL godfather, aka Paul McClean, seemed pleasantly surprised at said announcement.

A couple days later a 'Best Of' arrives in the office and on goes the bass line from Grandmaster Flash 'White Lines'. Ah! It all makes sense. Since then I've delved further into the minimalist funk of Liquid Liquid, and declared numerous times in pubs that I'm gonna start a band like 'Liquid Liquid' (I'm not). Despite being a recent discovery for me, these New Yorkers have quite the legendary status and I can imagine seeing them live will be one of the most unique and exciting experiences of Electric Picnic 2010.

Foals.jpgFoals
Phily Taggart - ATL Content Assistant

Being a 'Philly' it would be hard not to pick my equestrian brethren Foals. I have spent the past two months immersed in their new album 'Total Life Forever', it is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. The angular guitars and have been flattened out since their debut and we are now left facing a beautifully paced paranoid record that is lyrically bleak and aurally uplifting. They also looked, to quote Danny Dyer, 'proper naughty' at Reading and Leeds on Ö÷²¥´óÐã 3 last night. Neigh chance I would miss them at Electric Picnic.
