Chattering Classes #33 - Space Dimension Controller

Post categories:

ATL | 15:35 UK time, Wednesday, 19 January 2011

(aka Jack Hamill from Belfast) is a properly massive prospect, with his quirky brand of futuristic house music landing him gigs around the world and interest from some of the biggest and most exciting labels in dance music. Not bad for a 20 year old creating music in his living room, eh? Making the most of his increasing profile, SDC launches this Saturday, a brand new night at Love and Death Inc in Belfast.

Rigsy went sofa-to-sofa to find out more.....

(Please note, interview copied directly from the online chat, mistakes and dodgy grammar are therefore author's own....)

Jack says: yo

Rigsy says: good afternoon. how/where are you

Jack says: on my sofa

Rigsy says:Ìýi'm on my sofa too. this is how all interviews should be done. sofa link ups.

Jack says: yours is probably better

Rigsy says: it's not, one side has near completely caved in cause i always sit in the same place. whats happening then, you all set for saturday night?

Jack says: yea, though i had a dream last night that no one came and it was in my grandparents garden for some reason. then i ended up in some underground technologic colony that had to come up to the surface because one of their servers went on fire.

Rigsy says: even your dreams are futuristic why did you want to start your own night? cause it can be the type of thing that does indeed literally give you nightmares

Jack says: i just wanted to bring over some different music to belfast.

and the idea is to bring over friends i've made from dj'ing all over the place

Rigsy says: do you end up selling belfast to people then?

Jack says: not really, just saying that it would be cool to have them here. and most of the time they are up for it because most people haven't played here yet

Rigsy says: are you offering them an entertainments package?

like....dinner + gig on the saturday....giants causeway on the sunday?

Jack says: ha, not really. maybe bring them to the studio. probably not though

Rigsy says: tell us about jackmaster then

Jack says: well he's a dj from glasgow and he is really good. definitely one of my favourite dj's. he plays everything in his sets

Rigsy says: who else have you planned?

Jack says: that'll be announced on the first night. with two big posters on teh wall

Rigsy says: okay without spoiling the surprise then, giz a wee hint of the type of vibe we can expect from your night in the future

Jack says: not even i can really tell. its just whoever i'm friends with and can get over so the style can really vary. but i'll be working with some others this year, which will make things bigger

Rigsy says: why don't you call the night 'space dimension controller and friends'

like you're oprah

Jack says: i would rather be maury

Rigsy says: just call it friends and use the exact same font as the american sitcom THAT WOULD BE COOL

Jack says: haha

Rigsy says: play house remixes of the theme tune then you could all cop off with each other during the night....anyway

very briefly then, cause it's a nightmare with you, cause you're always up to allsorts... SDC plans other than this new night....

Jack says: getting the album sorted is the main thing and i have alot of gigs htis year. japan and us tour all of may :-/

Rigsy says: sweet baby christmas! why the sad face? are you insane?

Jack says: diverts time from teh album

Rigsy says: my heart bleeds ;-)

but that's amazing jack. buzzing for ya! right, our time is up, nut before you go

Jack says: nut before i go

Rigsy says: if your new night was a film, perhaps made in the 80s, what would the cheesey tagline be?

quite a dificult question there to end

Jack says: hmmmmmm

Rigsy says: do you want to have a think about this one and mail be in a while?

Jack says: ok. haha

ÌýRigsy says: ha ha brilliant. i'll put the blog together, and just when its ready to publish i'll mail you. good luck with saturday man, sounds like a treat

Jack says: cheeersss

Rigsy says: laterzzzzzz

Jack says: latah

**Fifteen minutes later, Jack mailed Rigsy the following message:**

In the Year of Funk, 2011, the rulers of this city devised the ultimate plan. They would reshape the Future by changing the rules. The plan required something that felt no pity. No pain. No fear. Something unstoppable. They created "BASIC RHYTHM"
