Next to face brutal interrogation from ATL's Rigsy in our series of online chats is one Cara Cowan, social butterfly, collaborator with some of the best bands in the country and a solo performer in her own right. Set to perform at Auntie Annie's, Belfast this Friday ahead of a brand new EP (an impressive taster was aired on Monday night), Cara has gathered an impressive array of musicians to back her up. Read all about it....

Cara says: bello bigsy

Rigsy says: yes cara! this is how we do interviews now. we decided to spare bands the hell of having to actually meet me, after a few unsavory incidents (thats a joke btw readers - i'm actually REALLY DEAD ON) RIGHT, what would you like to talk about?

Cara says: well firstly, aren't you going to wish me a happy birthday

Rigsy says: good lord. happy birthday cara!! today?!

Cara says: yes thank you. guess what age?

Rigsy says: lol aye right. nice try!

Cara says: i swear it is... for that is why i am performing at animal disco this friday 'cara cowans birthday bash'

Rigsy says: no i mean nice try with you getting me to guess your age - very dangerous game to play

Cara says: oh ..well i don't look that old do i?

Rigsy says: again, i shall answer no questions from a lady re: her age.
lets just say everyone looks younger than they are and they already are really young.

Cara says: it will remain a mystery then.. Right so. as i was saying, this friday I am playing at animal disco, shall i give you a bit of info about it

Rigsy says: animal disco is great fun! who's in your band these days?

Cara says: well the line up is forever changing. But of course I am always in the band!! , I have a harpist Daragh Gillen who is AMAZING and has sort of taken on the role of a lead guitarist but playing the harp instead

Rigsy says: wow, a harpist? hallo??

Cara says: patients.. rigsto pop

Rigsy says: ha ha, sorry!

Cara says: yes ..a bit different eh! I also have a very talented guitarist Kyle McCann who used to play with me and left for a while, but has returned.. and for this gig on Friday my very good friend and brilliant bass player john conway will be playing , he has played with silhouette and in Katie and the Carnival.
and my lovely boyfriend Fergal Lindsay () is playing guitar and singing backing vocals and Mr Stephen Leacock from is drumming

Rigsy says: wow! SUPERGROUP!!!!!!!!!!

Cara says: supergroup indeed

Rigsy says: that's a big sound though for such a small lady!!
sounds great though, have you had to rework your songs for this line up?
like write in harp lines and stuff?

Cara says: well the harp has been a part of the band for a while, and the set is pretty heavy these days ..which is brilliant. i don't want to be categorized as an acoustic band

Rigsy says: are you tempted to name the collective? to give it a real 'band' feel?

Cara says: i have been tempted to come up with a band name, but I figured if the band will forever be changing and I remain the singer and composer then why not keep my name ..perhaps go for something shorter that still represents me. like did (lesley fiest) I love the title ...makes her sound like god

Rigsy says: ha, true. so the EP, do all these people feature on it? we played a track on monday

Cara says: John, Brian McFerran and Daragh are on the ep. - the ep is built up of two older tracks and two new songs. The first two we recorded featured Stuart Bell, Brian, Luke Carson and Kyle again and the new songs featured the above and guitarist/singer James McCallum and we also had Orla from playing cello

Rigsy says: tell us about the variation on the EP, tracks have all sounded pretty different so far

Cara says: it's strange because one of the older songs and one of the newer ones fit really well together and are nice, soft and quirkier. and then one of the old and one new are heavier and more folklike ..but it's a good balance i think. Stuart Bell also came and worked on the new tracks.
he's been very helpful throughout and Brian played drums and sort of took on management role-as well as having other management in london

Rigsy says: does it feel like this EP is the start of it? as in a kind of launch for you and your music

Cara says:Ìý Yes this definitely feels like this is the official beginning.
This is going to be my first release. I feel like I have grown and developed into myself as a person and an artist and i am ready to take it on professionally

Rigsy says: right before i let you go - that track you did with i only heard that when i saw them live with you - so maybe 2/3 times, yet i feel like i know every note inside out. it's incredible

Cara says: on my side <3

Rigsy says: was it ever recorded?!

Cara says: it isn't recorded. i am def up for recording it though

Rigsy says: HURRY UP PLEASE

Cara says: we did a live recording "apparently" at their very last radar gig so maybe we should chase that up

Rigsy says: so what you doing to celebrate your birthday other than the gig on friday?

Cara says: well it is also my sisters birthday today ..though she is 24, two years older than i am (can u guess my age now)

Rigsy says: you're very keen to share your age. rubbing it in a bit, cara?

Cara says: i'm still a baby. i plan to remain 22 forever though, you know how the media behave about all that past your sell by date business

Rigsy says: CAREFUL NOW

Cara says: so i probably shoulda kept my age on the downlow

Rigsy says: ha ha. well have a great day and behave yourself on friday, at least until you performÌý thanks cara!

Cara says: see ya soon rigstar
