Glasgowbury 2011 - Kowalski

What happened: There aren’t many standers for Kowalski’s mid-afternoon set on the sunny main stage. Kowalski’s combination of gentle, sweet-voiced melody layered over plinky organs and hyperactive drums, meander over Eagle’s Rock and provide a hazy soundtrack to our lazy afternoon. The band admit themselves to having not played live in a long time, and there’s a hint of uncertainty to their set and a discernible lack of spark in the performance.
The band betrays a hint of disappointment when they thank the crowd for coming to see them instead of General Fiasco, who can occasionally be heard giving it socks over in the Spurs of Rock tent. Whether or not this performance has gained them any new followers is unlikely, but at least the faithful present, including a couple of fetching fellows in three-piece suits on stilts, will be satisfied with Kowalski’s offering.
Goldstar: The moments of electro-Arcade Fire brilliance.
Lost At Sea: The band’s own restraint on stage sometimes seems to bleed out into the crowd, who are at times uninspired by the lacklustre performance. The setÌýsomewhat absent of enough catchy tunes that grab you by the shoulders and give you a shake.
