Oxegen 2011 - British Sea Power
Vodafone Stage, Saturday, 4pm
Describe in a Tweet: Flags not quite half mast.
What happened: A disappointing crowd has gathered by the stage for BSP, but if it has disheartened the band, they haven't let it effect their performance. 'Who's In Control' kicks of a set of solid indie song-writing, showing that the craft of lyric writing hasn't been lost in the festival need for the quick fix. The sound is a bit mixed, as the wall of guitars hide the violin and backing vocals, but it's nothing disastrous. Bass player Neil Hamilton takes the lead role for a couple of tunes, before Yan returns with the soaring guitars of 'Waving Flags'. An anthemic and uplifting end to the set, finishing in 'We Close Our Eyes', will surely convince any passer by.
Crazy in Love: Yan's command of the stage and guitar acrobats at the end, just for the craic....
Why Don't You Love Me: Why aren't there more people here?
