Oxegen 2011 - Tinie Tempah
Vodaphone stage, Friday, 7pm
Describe in a Tweet: Put the effort in, reap the rewards.
What happened: Good to see someone put so much work in. Despite limited resources (in that he's only the one album's worth of tunes) Tinie Tempah is doing everything he can to put on a show. Every festival cliche is rolled out - splitting the crowd, call and response, dubious claims he's Irish (Tinie's real name is Patrick, to be fair)... even the old getting-everyone-to-crouch-down-for-a-bit trick - it's all there. We lap it up.
Crazy In Love: Opening with 'Frisky' seemed a bit risky... but he still had Written In The Stars and a brilliantly scrappy version of Pass Out up his sleeve. Even a new-ish song, Love Suicide, goes down a treat, albeit with a lot of coaxing.
Why Don't You Love Me: Miami To Ibiza, the electro-trance smash recorded with Swedish House Mafia, lacks the required thump when performed properly live by his band tonight. Credit for trying, mind.
Oxegen rating: 8/10
