Oxegen 2011 - Weezer
Main Stage, Friday, 5.55pm
Describe in a Tweet: Muddy Holly
What happened: Weezer take to the stage with smiles so bright, sunglasses are necessary if retina's are to remain unscorched. The LA power punk forefathers are in great spirits, their energy is infectious and is directly responsible for getting the party started at tonight. Rivers Cuomo flails around the stage like blown spores from a dandelion. His stage banter is funny, off the cuff and effortless while the bands performance is entirely encapsulating, to the point the main stage crowd are awkwardly bouncing like delighted toddlers.
Weezer's setlist choice is a lesson for any band in how to approach a festival. New and old material is briefly aired at the beginning, Wheatus' 'Teenage Dirtbag' and Radiohead's 'Paranoid Android' are covered, much to the delight of the baying masses and the end with three of their biggest hit.
Crazy In Love: Rivers Cuomo's spontaneous crowd interaction was ridiculously endearing.
