Belsonic 2011 - Andrew Weatherall
Andrew Weatherall
supporting Primal Scream
Friday 19th of August 2011
Describe in a Tweet: The wonderful DJ of Oz
What happened: With no ceremony, the main brain behind Primal Scream’s Screamadelica came to the stage and gave us 90mins of quality tuneage. The major shame though, was that his low key performance was lost on such a big stage. There was no doubting the quality of the music he played, with each and every song being a blinder with this reviewer’s highlight being the luxuriant choral version of Dr. John’s ‘I Walk On Gilded Splinters’. But he tucked himself away in a barely visible corner of the stage and provided very high quality background music to the people in the queue for the bar whilst the road crew built the stage for tonight’s headliners.
Movin On Up: The sheer range of styles Weatherall played not only sat comfortably with one another
Damaged: A lack of ‘performance’. Sitting almost invisibly and playing in anonymity, there was no reason he couldn’t have swapped with Cashier No.9 who would have entertained the crowd much more.
Belsonic Rating: 6/10
