Elbow
supported by Foy Vance and Villagers

Describe in a Tweet: Head, shoulders, knees and toes. ELBOW!!!

What Happened: The collective misery of wet feet has evaporated from Custom House Sq as we have been invited into Guy Garvey's own little private bar, an establishment were he talks one on one with you, delights with delicious banter, and plays you some of his favourite songs (all Elbow tracks, funnily enough).

From the band's initial toast (to the audience) until their final bow, they have a reverent crowd, sinking and swimming, biting the bait and lapping up every individual song.

Elbow are the masters of light and shade. The emotion that they can convey in one single note, most bands couldn't do in ten. 'The Night Will Always Win' proves that if you strip Elbow back to just a vocal and a piano they can still make you well up like a little girl with a skinned knee.

Whoever picked their setlist should write murder mystery novels; the ebb, flow and tone is perfect. One second you are watching 'Mirrorball' all misty eyed and ready for a hug, and the next you are greeted like a punch in the face by the distorted bass in line in 'The Bones of You'.

Elbow are easily one of the best live bands on the planet right now. Their last few albums are untouchable, and they have the most likeable and humble front man in the game.

My Very Best: The band are great, but a special mention has to go to the soaring string quartet and the light show.

Grounds for Divorce: Guy Garvey can't resist the old terrible jokes. They were so bad that they were good. Really clutching at straws to find fault here...

Belsonic Rating: 9/10
