Jared Leto performing for Ö÷²¥´óÐã RAdio 1

Ìý

kicks off tomorrow in Belfast with Thirty Seconds To Mars taking centre stage. The Jared Leto (actor in American Pyscho, Requiem for a DreamÌýand loads more) fronted emo rock band have sold out their Belsonic appearance at Custom House Square.

It got us thinking of that old chestnut; actors who see themselves as budding musicians/ musicians who try to act. CanÌýanybody master both art forms?ÌýWe'll leave the decision onÌýwhether Jared Leto has managed thatÌýup to you! But here are some of our picks of the best cross over musician/actor or actor/musican!

Hit us up on / or you can text 81771 after 8pm tonight. Here's team ATL's picks...

Sean Combs - Get him To the Greek
(Rigsy - ATL Presenter)

P Diddy has been hit and miss musically since day one and, after one too many name changes, comes across as....well, a wee bit of a tube. However, judging by his (surprisingly substantial) role in 'Get Him to The Greek', in which he steals the show from Russell Brand, he's actually a bit of a legend. Self deprecating, impressively daft and just very funny indeed - who'd have thunk it?!

Steve Earle - 'Walon' in the Wire
(Paul McClean - ATL Producer)

There are just too many incredible thing about HBO's The Wire. The writing, the acting, the sense of unflinching truth winning out over cheap dramatic device. One of the most sensitively handled storylines is that of Bubba, a good-hearted down and out struggling with an addiction to crack. His sponsor in rehab is non other than singer-songwriter Steve Earle, a man whose own demons have often had the upper hand in real-life. Earle plays the character 'Walon' downbeat, a guardian angel with all the twitchy compassion of someone who has spent a lot of time doing as the title track says and putting the devil way down in the hole.

Bram Stokers Dracula

Tom Waits - Bram Stokers Dracula
(Amy McGarrigle - ATL Content Assistant)

I only discovered recently that Renfield, the crazy bug eating asylum in mate in Bram Stokers Dracula, was indeed the one and only Tom Waits. For year's Renfield's unhinged madness freaked me out and to know the man behind 'What's He Building In There', a master of story telling, monologue and general creepiness, was behind it all makes perfect sense. Waits is one of those musicians who could comfortably jump over to the acting side full time, but in his own words, "there's a difference between "I do some acting" and "I'm an actor." People don't really trust people to do two things well". His delivery carries gravitas so many would pay for. Another notable mention to Wait's crippled veteran monologue in 'The Fisher King'.

Without a question - has to be Jenny Lewis formerly of Rilo Kiley. Both her work as a member of the band and as a solo artists has been fantastic. Everyone should check out 'I'm Having Fun Now' by her side project Jenny & Johnny!!!!
