Electric Picnic 2011 - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros
Cosby Stage, Friday 2nd September, 11.00pm
Describe in a Tweet: An utterly magnetic performance.
What happened: Alex Ebert bounds on stage looking a bit like he just woke up in a cardboard box and suddenly the whole stage is brimming with musicians wielding tambourines, clapping and frolicking in a particularly joyous manner. Alex spends the first song in the crowd leaving the rest of the band a bit forgotten on stage behind him but the joyful atmosphere is contagious and soon everybody's singing along. There's a certain hippy vibe at Electric Picnic and this band perfectly fit that bill.
Good Fortune: The total feel good atmosphere during Ö÷²¥´óÐã with a suitably hippyish peace and love vibe that had the whole crowd singing along, smiling, dancing and rapidly signing up to join the cult of the magic zeros.
Evil: Alex's attempts at crowd surfing ended up less dramatic than intended when he got his foot stuck in someones handbag handles and spent half the track trying to get loose and then fell trying to get back onstage, we're thinking he might want to get a stunt double.
