Electric Picnic 2011 - Halves
Body and Soul, Saturday 3rd September, 1pm
Describe in a Tweet: Sore heads soothed by beautiful melancholy.
What Happened: Halves arrive in the serene surroundings of Body & Soul's natural amphitheater, with sensitive heads easing themselves into day two of the festival. "We'll scare the rain away", they declare as they begin their set of soothing melancholy. Violins, driving guitars, bells, delicate piano and percussion all layer on top of the atmosphere drenched backing track, making a sound unlike anybody else at this festival. Band members chop and change instruments, showing just how proficient musicians they are, while Brian Cash's tender melodies are delivered with perfection.
Swoon: Children are running care free up and down the hills as the band introduce, May Your Enemies Never Find Happiness to the growing crowd.
Funeral: Their "one last tune" ends up being the least coherent of the set, which is a pity as crowd was double at the end from when they started.
EP rating: 8/10
