That New Band Smell: Mister Underground

Post categories: ,Ìý

ATL | 20:12 UK time, Tuesday, 11 October 2011

Welcome to this weeks That New Band Smell, the weekly online blog detailing the most ear catching Irish bands to stray into ATL’s radar in the last seven days.

A band so new they still have the price tag on. It’s not quite indie, it’s not quite rock but it is pretty good. Click the link, check them out.

Captain Kennedy’s lead singer goes solo, singing dark confessional songs with his inimitable gravely voice.

Mister Underground (Caution: Not real name) is the rebellious alias of Belfast’s Christopher Preston. Preston has been playing and recording music from the tender age of 13, cutting his teeth, fooling around with style and content in much the way many young musicians do. The only difference being, Mister Underground landed someway left of the familiar landing strip.

His music is not for those of a nervous disposition or PC attitude. Our featured track ‘Medicine’ is an unnervingly intrusive electro rock track that pulls you deep into the twisted mind of our alias Mister Underground. Other tracks from his still to be released album touch on industrial, dub step and basically anything he can to achieve a dark aggressive and often frightening sound. If they were burning Marilyn Manson’s cd’s in Middle America ten years ago we could see I-Pods going up in flames in much the same way in the more conservative area’s of Northern Ireland.

If you would like to have your music featured, or your friends are in the raddest new band, then you have several options: You can upload your music to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing Uploader, email the show – atl@bbc.co.uk, or just get so many people talking and blogging about your music that it would seem criminal for ATL not to stand up and take note.
