Some of you may have noticed our monthly column in The Big List fo which Rigsy tends to bang on about - well, whatever's on his mind or floating the collective ATL boat.

Here's this month's effort, with the relevant links and directions if anyone fancies a little further listening....

That new band smell....so sweet!

Every week on Across the Line, we have a feature called 'That New Band Smell', hosted by floppy haired social butterfly Philly Taggart. While I like having Philly about the office because he's the only man on the planet capable of making yours truly look butch and macho, he's really here because of his remarkable knack for digging out gems and reserving us the best seat on future bandwagons.Ìý

He'll check the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing uploader, steal my post or chat with musicians at gigs. Maybe he's riffling through bins or breaking into recording studios, I really don't know for sure. I've stopped asking questions. As long as he brings us three impressive new acts every Monday, I'm happy. And I'm always happy.

While genre has never been an issue (for ages it felt like Philly had a dubstep or electro producer every week but recently it's been all about the rock and metal) it's interesting that the two standouts for me have been solo artistes - and . Two acts now relatively established on the ATL playlist.

Best Boy grip is a guy from Derry called Eoin. For one man and his piano, the tracks are massive sounding pop songs, unbelievably instant, fun and welcoming. For fans of and I guess, or any act with a knack for quirky pop songs.

Then there's the equally instant Katharine Phillipa, an act who wrestles your attention within seconds. The production is minimal and majestic, totally spellbinding. And then she starts to sing….wowzers. Comparisons to are lazy but predictable - 'Whiter Than I' is better than anything on Florence's new album, mind.

One thing's for sure - finding three new acts every week has never been a struggle for Philly. And given this feature has ran since springtime, it must be well over 70 acts he's brought to the ATL playlist in 2011, each of them greeted with an approving nod at the very least. Is everyone in this entire country making decent music!? Sometimes it feels that way.

Quality and quantity side by side.
