With Belsonic announcing their first six headliners last week and the line up for Electric Picnic expected on Thursday, we're starting to consider who may end up soundtracking our summer. While the likes of Pigstock, Sunflower FestÌýand Glasgowbury are our main focus for the coming months, it's fun to try and predict which big acts will headline the likes of Vital and EP, right?
Hard to beat a little speculation and rumour-mongering, lets face it. As long as you know that's exactly what this is - speculation. Trust us - we know nothing at the moment. Mores the point - if we DID know any of the below to be fact, we wouldn't be publishing it. To get photo passes, permission to record and general access toÌýreport back from these events - we have a certain responsibility to keep schtum. But luckily, no one has told us a thing, so we can play the guessing game. Just like everyone else...
Vital
As you'll know by now, Vital is definitely coming back. Seems contracts are in place ensuring it'll take place in 2013 as well.
Furthermore, my personal feeling is the two headliners this summer (assuming it is two days - with no Oxegen to drag the masses south, perhaps it could be more?) will be from the following five acts - Stone Roses, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, The Killers and Snow Patrol. With Swedish House Mafia an outside bet.
As for the supporting cast - the likes of Florence & The Machine, Example, The Vaccines, Ting Tings, Tineh Tempah and Noel Gallagher would all be about the right size. Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys a possibility as a strong support or possible 'double headliner'. But I'm getting carried away…
Electric Picnic
As for Electic Picnic, if someone held me hostage and forced me to put together an entire bill to ensure my freedom? Well, I'd start with Radiohead, The Cure, New Order, Elbow, The Happy Mondays and ATDi as my headliners. Although I'm not entirely convinced by Radiohead, much as that would be a wonderful treat. With slightly more (no doubt misplaced) confidence, I'd add The Shins, Bon Iver, Magnetic Man, Kelis, The Horrors, M83, Katy B, Tom Jones, Chase & Status, Friendly Fires, The Hives, Santigold, Noah and the Whale, Justice, The XX and Sigur Ros to the list of acts a little bit down the bill. Then finish with De La Soul, Crystal Castles, Soulwax, 2manydjs, SBTRKT, Hot Chip, MF Doom and Azelia Banks....before begging for mercy.

As for other major gigs south of the border, Dublin's Phoenix Park is surely set for another couple of major shows to add to The Stone Roses and Snow Patrol/Florence which are already on-sale. The big rumour was Rihanna - personally I'm not convinced. I think the likes of Arctic Monkeys or The Killers are a better bet. Then there's Slane. Coldplay was the big rumour and while that seems to have gone a little cold, if Slane happens it seems a cert they'll be headliners. If not, Foo Fighters are a possibility - I'm convinced they'll play either Dublin or Slane this summer.
