Across The Line

Chris Jones joined Rigsy and Stu to discuss some of their favourite new releases including:

– Heart Of Stone

Chris:  “This EP is called Hot House…it’s a little bit more direct, a little bit more stripped back than a lot of his stuff.  He sort of describes his type of music as ‘tape throb’ because it’s got this sort of knackered, degraded quality as if it’s been taped over countless times. This is a bit more straight down the line with that really bouncy bass line.”

 - Memo

Stuart: “He previously played a lot of cover versions and all of a sudden he’s pulled out this EP of his own material and it’s actually pretty good.”

– Idle Hands

Chris:  “This is coming out on a brand new Belfast label called Touch Sensitive in July. They are supporting the Charlatanes at Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival on the 2nd May.”

– Big Fig

Chris: “That track’s from a new EP they have coming out next month called 'Olympians.' It kind of reminds us a little bit of ASIWYFA and their more carnivalesque moments, but there’s a real pop sensibility to it as well. It’s really accessible and very impressive stuff.”

– Origins

Rigsy: “She came to our attention in 2013 when she won the Irish Youth Music Awards. She has pop sensibilities… a little bit of adventure in there as well. Plenty awaits from Niamh.”

– San McGill

Chris:  “They are three guys from Belfast, and this is the first track on their ‘Eggplant’ EP. Really impressive…it’s got lots of aggression, attitude…great stuff.”

- …But This In Marble

Rigsy: “This is on a brand new four track compilation called ‘3’… Super chunky, super noisy… big, big riffs. “

Chris: “There’s so much energy coming off that.”
