Andrew how about 2003 when Schumacher clinched the title by a single point? That was one of the most intense race I had ever watched, ofcourse with the way Lewis won his title nothing will beat that for years to come.

Another good selection, and I'm struggling to choose 1, so I'll go for 1993.

I'd love to see 1993 for full highlights. Whilst 1990 will always remain one of the most controversial races of all time, it really only centres on the run down to the first corner. As far as I can tell, not much else happened in the remainder of the race, except for a rather unusual podium of Piquet Moreno and Suzuki. So for that reason, i'd say 1993 is a better choice as the race had more action.

Andrew - you might like to change the line "And to head off the inevitable criticisms of that choice, I'd like to point out that 1976, 1989, 2000 and 2005 were all choices last year." to include the 1994 GP which was also included and was arguably the race that showed how excellent Hill was in the wet (running rings around Schumacher).

Gotta be 1993 so I can see my countryman Irvine's explosive debut. Three points:

1. Sorry to be a pedant Andrew, but Berger was by 1993 no longer Senna's team mate,

2. Why is it everyone always rambles on about Schumacher's debut at Spa in 1991, when he qualified eighth? He was only promoted to seventh when there was a problem for somebody in front of him. And Irvine, I believe, finished sixth in his debut race, having also qualified in the same position as his future team mate. Just fancied a rant ;)

3. Would like to see footage of Suzuki standing on the podium: it doesn't feature in the 1990 season review video.

i remember the 1995 race was a great masterclass from schumi, stirling drive from alesi in the ferrari was riviting before he retired and the williams's, well, less said the better. but then 1993 was a truly great show by the legend that was and still is, Ayrton Senna. still hard when you think about it, that he is gone. :-( either one would be great to relieve andrew

Besides, I was too young to see any either of the title wins with Bennetton, which I've been told were more impressive than the ones from 2000-2004 given the superiority of the Ferrari in those years. Wonder how many titles Michael would've won had he been given a Williams drive in his first season like Hamilton was given his McLaren seat. Scary thought?

For me it has to be 1998.
I was fortunate enough to be there with the McLaren Team, and celebrated Mika's win in style, but have never seen the broadcast of this race.
The cheer when Michael messed up the start of the formation lap was incredible, as was his battle throughout the race only to suffer the tyre failure.

What about 1996? I see it's not on last years version either and it was one of the first races I remember plus the last on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and it resulted in a British world champion.

As it was great seeing Eddie Irvine on the Forum after the Italian GP it's got to be 1993. Pity there isn't video of the punch-up afterwards.

As for this selection, although i assume most people would go for the 1990 race i would like to see the 1993 race please. It seems from the write up that it was a more eventfull & drama packed race than 1990, &, come on lets face it, everybody knows what happend in that race.

It has to be 1993 just for Irvine unlapping himself and then getting punched by Senna after the race. If I remember correctly ITV miss Schumacher's retirement in 1998 an I was mad about that.

I think 1995 for me please Andrew. the 10 miute edits will be able to cover the rest of the races.

Just think how many titles would Michael have won if he had people like Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel against him in the early 2000's? Not as many that's for sure. Whilst I do not doubt that he WAS great you have to remember that there wasn't really any one else! And yes I know that's not his fault.

Ho Ho Ho Irvine saying to Senna he was not fast enough. If that scene is in the footage I'd love to see it otherwise I'll settle for 1998 and Mika en route to his first title. Pity Alain Prost never won in Japan, the only regular GP fixture from that era that was missing from his impressive list of victories.

When I watched the 1990 race live there was an interview with Senna following 'the' crash transmitted during the race. As I recall it was eyewateringly vitriolic against Prost and the F1 world in general, I've never heard it since, has it been erased from the tapes?

I dont seem to be able to remember Irvine's debut for some reason. Maybe because my first memory of Irvine is when he cut across Verstappen and caused a 4 car pile up (at Brazil 94 I think?) resulting in Martin Brundel's head flapping about all over the shop after Verstappen barrel rolled over his car.

So you can't show extended highlights from 1997-2008, so why include an option from this era? So if 1998 is chosen, will there be no extended highlights and just the short highlights for all options? Strange.

Could you please do 1996 for me i love seening Damon Hill winning the championship again. And the famous comment made by Murray Walker when he crossed the line and i also know that Murray had a soft spot for Damon.

I totally agree. You can only beat what is put in front of you BUT any real competition Schumacher had went when Hakkinen retired in all fairness. If the field had been as tight as it is now would've given far greater value to having won those titles, rather than having to beat his team mate and drivers like...um, Ralf, DC, Jenson in the Honda?

I'm actually a little disappointed that there's been no mention at all of 1996. I mean, Damon won the title!!

I can remember staying up at the age of 10, crying with joy as Villeneuve crashed and as Damon crossed the line. It was one of the best memories I have as a boy. He was and is my childhood hero, and it would've been great to see that again. Maybe next year, folks?

And while we're at it, any chance of repeating last year's and this year's choices next year, along with whatever you plan for 2011? I personally believe you're wasting a great chance of having more than five races repeated over and over again on the red button for four days. You can't say you have no time to show them as they're constantly shown from Wednesday through till Friday. Loads of time!!!

Of your choices, 1995 was the best. Alesi showed his style and speed. 1990 was all about turn one, the race itself was fairly dull after that.

1993 seems to be going to win, and I'd like to add to that as I'd love to see it.

Also I agree with comment #19. It would be amazing to see some really old highlights next year, seeing the drivers who I have heard so much about from the past. However the highlights we have been treated to in the last two years have been fantastic.

In response to comment #24, fair enough if it was shown last year, but that's kind of my point. Some of us who weren't able to access the red button's great features straight away didn't know when the races were being shown. I didn't even know about Classic F1 till half way through last year, and I certainly didn't know it was on the red button.

Can we please have these races repeated next year, the choices from 09, 2010 and 2011 together wouldn't exactly take up more air time as I said before it's repeated continuously for three days.

So any chance you can give us what we want??

can we have 93 please...!!! and can we hear the 'taped meeting' between Senna & Irvine too??? and why is there no option to show the races from 1997 - 2008? I know they are ITV highlights, but Im sure you can do something????? Otherwise an excellent blog.

1993 Please Andrew. Kind of surprised that 1996 wasn't included in the list, otherwise I would have picked that! Could it be included as a double header of F1 highlights which you have done in the past?

I would hope the Japanese GP is not dropped, Suzuka is a great track and Fuji made some thrilling viewing.
Would be a major tragedy if Bernie was to remove it, it should stay, the Japanese Fans are mad for F1 and Fuji TV's coverage was brilliant.
Anyway, I would like to see 1993 as well, something other then that in 1990, which has been shown to death in years gone by.
As for no more longer highlights from ITV races is a disgraceful decision, ITV had some memorable races but the Ö÷²¥´óÐã cannot be bothered to get them longer, real tradegy like the option not to edit ITV's long highlights as well when this all started, still the wrong decision.

Its easy to lump Japan in with all the other Asain hosting countries, but people should always rememeber, the Japanese have been Motor Sport mad for decades, whether it has been Motorbikes or F1 Cars / Engines. Losing a Japanese GP is the same as losing one of the Major historic European rounds. Hope it never happens.

Out of the selection my favorite is 1998. Stayed up to watch it and the opening 15 laps from Schumacher were incredible. He absolutely wrestled the car round this fantastic circuit when he had nothing to lose.

However as we'll see 10minutes of it wanyway, i'll go for 1990. Great though Senna was, i grew up watching his antics, many of which would make Schumacher blush. 1990 being a prime example. Disgraceful but fantastic, dramatic TV.

(Like last time Andrew, Tell the freeview Controller NOT to put Classic F1 on the red button, he'll no doubt then do the opposite like last time. Fingers crossed, as its a great selection)

Hello Andrew Hello everyone. What a selection we got here. Top class racing. The Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka is my favourite grand prix. Iconic corners like S curves,Degner curve,Spoon curve and the great 130R. I think Suzuka since it introduction in 1987 for me has now become the jewel in the crown of the F1 calendar along side Monte carlo and Spa francorchamps. I would like to see the 1990 Japanese grand prix. As Ayrton Senna said in interview it would of been nice to clinch the title like he did at Suzuka in 1988. 1993 was also great race. Ayrton press conference interview after the race was memorable. Andrew i got a suggestion. Why don't you show extended highlights of both the 1990 and 1993 grand prix. I notice you did this in the last pick your classic grand prix.

Evening all. Good choices, Andrew, and a great read. Whilst Senna is sometimes compared to Schumacher in resorting to pretty nasty tactics, I've always felt that at least Senna was inspired by an overwhelming sense of injustice. His disqualification from the '89 race remains one of the most astonishing decisions ever, and to face the prospect of rules being adjusted to hand the advantage to Prost again...

That said, I'll choose 1993 this time for a real master-class by a genius in an outclassed car in the rain on one of the greatest ever circuits.

I agree with Swerve1 - with so many new venues lined up, I've heard it suggested that both Spa and Suzuka could 'alternate' with other races. It will be a grim prospect indeed if we get a year with neither.

You know I was PRAYING 1993 would be among the choices becuase it's one of my favourite races of all time, mainly becuase of Irvine.

I'm fed up of the changes Ecclestone keeps making to the calendar, Suzuka is one of the elite circuits. I'd say there's 4 legendary circuits: Spa, Monza, Suzuka and Canada. If any of these four go then it's no longer F1 for me. The circuits should be a test of both man and machine and I feel these are the only four circuits that do that. All the new ones have been awful in my opinion, I'll save judgement on Abu Dhabi until after it's third year.

Getting back on topic I'd go for 1995. After seeing how poor Schumacher has been for this year, it'd be nice to see a reminder of the legend that he is still is for some of us. A driver who could put an inferior car at the front, I've only seen two drivers who could claim to be able to do that in the last two years, both in a certain French marque's car.

I'll go for 1993. I have to admit this season went off my radar a bit with Mansell driving in the US but there were still some great races. Will the punch up between Senna & Ervine be included?!?

I had a laugh when Coulthard and Ervine were on the Forum together recently and there was still needle there. I remember DC was asked if he would miss Ervine when he retired and he replied "Like a hole in the head"... Priceless!

19. Considering it is the Japanese Grand Prix thet we are voting for and there was only 2 races in the 1970's (76 & 77) and they were on two years ago, and they didn't go back until 1987 it would have been difficult for Andrew to get any in the 70's & 80's that havn't already been used.

1990 was a great opening 10 seconds,but 1993 has got to be a more interesting spectacle for a 40 minute re-run. 1993, please.

Good choice of races Andrew. I am going to vote for 1993. We haven't seen much from that season in this classics series.

Hi Andrew, F1 web team, busy Ö÷²¥´óÐã archivists and fellow classic F1 nuts, are you trying to torture us?! 3 cracking races and we have to choose 1 for the full highlights treatment?! Simply by virtue of the fact 90 has part 2 of Senna v Prost that JUST about clinches it, but Id be happy with 93 or 95 as the shortened 90 highlights will feature THAT collision. Fair play to the video editor/s they do a pretty good job of keeping all the juicy bits in. It would be a crying shame if Suzuka is dropped or alternates as I agree its a cracking track and you have to have a soft spot for the Japanese fans - they may be completely bonkers but they just love their motor racing and its about time they at last have a credible F1 star in Kobayashi who Im sure will have a better 2011. Finally a couple of points - what happens if S Korea is dropped this year and no replacement is found, do we still get a round of classic F1 (cant wait to find out whats in store for that one!) and just to repeat something Ive mentioned before to all those who want to get the 00 & 01 season highlights on the cheap, Ive seen the old official F1 01 & 02 PS2 games for £1 each 2nd hand in a store that has 'station' & 'game' in it and earlier (non-platinum budget re-releases) come with the official FIA 00 & 01 season reviews respectively, no Murray unfortunately, but Ben Edwards is one of the better modern commentators and it has 'multi-angle' footage taken from Bernies F1 Digital+ feeds.

BTW you dont need a PS2 to view the 00 & 01 season reviews - theyre just standard PAL DVDs and will work fine on just about anything that has a DVD drive. Just make sure you inspect the contents that it has the review disc before purchase - enjoy!

1990 please - I've only been completely hooked by F1 in the last 5 years and I'd love to see the drama for this race for the first time.

1995 - ALESI's drive was reputed by many to be one of the best drives they had ever seen (J Palmer, A Jones).

Not holding my breath though. I doubt anyone here remembers much else other than Schumacher and Hill during that era...
