Andrew, I do not think you needed to say 'he may not be as famous as Vettel or Schumacher' in reference to Mr Buemi.

He's an F1 driver and we want to hear about his favourite races, which were great choices by the way.

Excellent choices by Mr Buemi.

As for the races selected having been seen before, you can hardly ask drivers to list their 5 favourite GPs except those that have been selected beforehand.

I don't think its "lazy" of Andrew and the 主播大秀 to do it in this format. The fact is the archive can only stretch so far in time and, perhaps more to the point, there are only so many races which can be caled 'classics', before you start having to delve into the nadir that was the 2002 season... So it was always inevitable that some races will be repeated. I'd rather see repeats of classic races that we've seen before rather than go "oh, we haven't seen the 2002 Hungarian GP before, lets watch full highlights of that..." (strictly speaking we wouldnt get full highlights from a race in 2002 I know but i'm just making an illustrative point)

So just lay off Andrew and the 主播大秀 why don't you?

The 1989 Japanese GP, the 1990 Japanese GP, the 1998 Belgian GP the 2008 Brazilian GP have ALL been shown on Classic F1 already. 2009 and 2010 have also been shown on the 主播大秀 within the last 2 years. Well done Andrew, for giving us viewers the best possible value. Thank you so much for really utilising the resources at the 主播大秀 in the best way and thanks a bunch ...reallymakes the license fee worth it when you do such a "fantastic" job. I shall ask you again:

When you saw Buemi's choices, why not simply document his choices in the blog and then state "because we have already shown these races on classic F1, we thought we would show a selection of races that havent been shown."?

#11 Lay off the 主播大秀 and Andrew? They have masses of old races, qualifying sessions, documentarys in their archives, and Mr Ecclestone has given the 主播大秀 the rights to rebroadcast old F1 footage...and we have to put up with a stream of repeats not to mention a blog that hardly even features quotes from the driver in question.

Quite clearly, this format was always going to produce repeats...the drivers are young from a similar age group which means for no apparent reason Andrew and his team are restricting us to watching a tiny bit of the history of F1 and mostly the cliches that have been done time again. The solution is very simple. Write a single blog that covers the favourite races of all the drivers. If the drivers happen to mention any races that have not been featured already, broadcast them. At the same time, simply broadcast everything the 主播大秀 has from chronological order...that way, we dont see repeats endlessly, we get to hear about the drivers favourite races, and we dont miss anything from the archive. I wonder if Andrew will reply?

Senna27 - you obviously feel very strong about this so i'm not going to argue with you. Quite frankly I have other things to get more stressed about than what classic races the 主播大秀 shows

The fact is I was disappointed the 1989 Japanese GP wasn't previously shown in full, being a race of supreme tension and eventual controversy, and I'm delighted it's made the grade this time. Well done 主播大秀.
BTW I'd love to see Martin Brundle's and DC's top 5 picks...

I think that maybe Buemi鈥檚 selection highlights some of the points raised before, namely; there are only so many races to show and not all of them could be described as classic and as such this feature in its current format has a built in expiration date.
Secondly it perhaps shows that the facelift of the feature whereby the current drivers pick their classic races is flawed. I mean, has Buemi been involved first hand in any classics? Are highlights of his scraps for 10th place and trips to the gravel trap going to excite? Probably not, so we鈥檙e left with his classic choices which are pretty much the same as everyone else; Japan 鈥�89 and 鈥�90 and of course the obligatory Spa 鈥�98.
Having said all this, I enjoy clicking on the links and watching the races even if only to reminisce and I certainly don鈥檛 have any better ideas! So keep 鈥榚m coming and I鈥檒l keep watching 鈥榚m.

Spain 1991 last time and Japan 1989 were both races i voted for in the first year of classic F1 and was dissapointed they didn't get the full highlights then, so am very pleased to get the chance to watch and record them on freeview.

People need to chill out a bit! What would you rather: We get to see highlights of old GP's regardless if we have seen them before or not (loads on you tube anyway). Or because petty people can't stop crying the 主播大秀 could stop the feature all together and everyone misses out. Get a grip.

Every time I watch Felipa Massa's press-conference in 2008 I feel worse. That's racing, as he says, but it's harsh considering that looks like his only serious title oppertunity.

Great selection from Buemi, perhaps too good, and why anyone would want to criticise Andrew and this feature in particular is beyond me. Shouldn't most of the complainers be at work at 11 o clock on a Wednesday?

Ahhh! I have no work today, so going to sit and enjoy the full 1989 race: ab fab. One of the first races that got me hooked permanently hooked. I'd been a fan for years, but the camera angles and long, long chase scenes, and the sound and fury of Prost and Senna's cars... it was a dog-fight on a race track. And really highlights the difference between then and now. THEN you felt yes, the pass CAN happen, so long as they keep racing. NOW the pass has to be helped with DRS, KERS.... or it'll never happen thanks to the aero. Such a difference.

As it happens, I agree with Senna27. If you've already shown it here, it's a repeat as far as the committed blog fans here go. Me? I don't remember what I had for dinner yesterday, let alone which races you showed last season. But yes, why not show your selected driver what's already been shown before they select...?

Do remember, it's impossible to please everyone all the time, BUT you can please ALL of the people SOME of the time. So some times you do, and sometimes you don't. Mass media is a difficult tightrope ;-0)

If your concerned about having repeats of races already shown because of the age group of the drivers, what about asking some of the older generation who are around the paddock, such as Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and even Bernie 'the bolt' Ecclestone?

IMO put up or shut up, the 主播大秀 is already making cutbacks & have done so appropriately & I was thinking we wouldn't get this feature this year.

Wrong. And I quote Dave from the previous blog:

Lets also not forget the 主播大秀 also has a lot more than just 1979-1996.

There is no justification for showing repeats.

While I'm sure eventually it will be necessary to post highlights from races other than those picked by the drivers, I would like to sympathize Mr Minardi above. Bring from Canada, not only can I not see the highlights posted by the 主播大秀 website, but I've never seen highlights from these races in my entire life (besides the scraps available on YouTube). Excepting 2008's finale, which I watched live on Canada's TSN sports channel, which airs Formula races live at ridiculous times because of our time difference (Australia this year was at 2am, Malaysia at 4 I think, while the European season is always at 8am on Sunday, which isn't so bad), and without any pre- or post-race coverage, all I've learned about these races I know from reading about them in books/magazines/websites. So just take a moment for me to recognize how good you have it as Formula 1 fans.

I only know one other person who watches it. To get any merchandise, I have to pay way more for overseas shipping. There's a store near my house that has a 2003 season Michael Schumacher hat that I've wanted to buy for years, because no one else buys it, but it's I think 50 or 60 dollars, quite a bit for a hat, and no one would know what it was anyway. I think the only place I could readily purchase merchandise would be at the Canadian Grand Prix, but Canada is quite a big place, and expensive to travel in, so I've never been able to go.

I don't mean to sound like a whiner myself, but I would LOVE the opportunity to watch 75 minutes of highlights from any classic Senna race, because I've never been able to. Seeing people complain "I've seen Senna and Prost clash in those classic title deciders soooo many times, show me something new" breaks my heart.

Livpoksoc - don't forget the worst thing of all ITV gave us - Mark 'There are a lot of situations wot are playing out at this point in time, Steve' Blundell. I think Andrew should be commended - this blog is the equivalent of the 2010 F1 season - dreadful start, then two crackers straight after! It is clear to see now the faults with week one were purely to do with Vettel's selfish and narrow-minded choices. Post 11 swrcsky is spot on - far rather watch Spa 98 for the 3rd time than have to relive the dross of 2002 or god forbid, 2004. Hungary '04 was the singularly worst race I have ever witnessed, the highlight was when they showed a replay of Ross Brawn eating a banana.

Have you ever thought that kids and younger people that have only started watching racing recently might not have seen these races? Classic F1 isn't a highlights reel of your personal favourite races.

I agree I would see Spa 98 any day than Hungary 02 or Hungary 04. or any processional races from the Ferrari domination era. 2002, 2004. I'm very pleased actually that Japan 89 is being shown as the full highlights. 1 hour and 13 minutes blimey!!. Seriously that least Buemi isn't picking a race just because he finished 14th unlike Vettel did but we didn't see the France 2008 highlights. Anyway looking forward to see what the other drivers have picked.

If you pick one race which is the best you've driven then that's fine. Abu Dhabi 2010 wasn't a classic but a defining race for Vettel. Same for Japan 2000, he helped Ferrari win their first driver's championship since 1979 and look what happened after that.

Young People and Kids would be very interested in seeing these races. Especially Spa 98.

#30 As recent as October 2010, the 主播大秀 showed the 1990 Japanese GP for example. Why not show something new? The video for the 1990 Japanese GP has been online since last year. All of the "Classics" in the current segment have already been shown and have been cunningly re-packaged into "Buemi's Classic F1" . The current format lacks any form of logic. It has to be chronological order from now on...2 races per segment with each race being given the full highlights.

Ok complainers, I would personally choose;

1) Japan 1976 (James Hunt's World Championship win in torrential rain)
2) Monaco 1982 (Several leaders on the last lap, Patrese finally coming out on top)
3) France 1985 (Piquet's Brabham, which had been crap all year, beat Rosberg, Senna and Prost because it was a hot, fast power track and he had Pirelli's)
4) Britain 1988 (Nigel Mansell's drive in the rain from 13th trying to catch Senna)
5) Monaco 1996 (Olivier Panis winning from the back of the grid)

How do people feel about my choices...would people complain? Andrew...can you oblige? :-)

They are already online. Just like Buemi's choices...they were already online so we go nothing new.

Finally, Belgium 1998! That was my favourite race ever, made even better by Murray's commentary. I was in Year 6 at the time and totally obsessed with F1- I used to video the races and rewatch them over and over, and ended up wearing out the video for that race! Loved it so much, really wish I could get it on video/DVD now to watch again. Agree with Buemi that it was the biggest pile-up in the first lap, and was so nice to see Hill winning for Jordan :).

Yet still people hunt for a reason to moan? this the DRIVERS choice of classic reaces, not an interveiw where the 主播大秀 ask for thier favs then ignore them, some people need to understand after a while there is nothing new to see.

What is the point of filling up this comment board with just complaining? Even if I've seen some or all of the races before, I don't mind watching them again (esp. Spa '98) If there's a film on TV that I've got on DVD anyway, I'll still watch it on TV! It's the same here. This page isn't just about old races now, it also gives us a bit more insight into the drivers themselves. And why don't you think about things you don't about before you write then?

Do you know what else Benson does in his life? I'm sure it's not just this blog as a full time job. And have you any idea how much it costs to firstly look through the archives, find the relevant footage, transfer it to digital video (including cleaning, repairing, separating soundtrack, editing etc) & before you tell us all how easy it is and you do that kind of thing yourself all the time - why don't you volunteer yourself to the beeb to do it?

It would be nice to be able to see them all in chronological order but I am happy enough with how it is turning out this season. You can't please everyone and I agree with previous comments in so far as we ought to count ourselves lucky that we get this amount of excellent coverage apart from the races themselves. Well done Andrew and the Beeb :)

A good selection from Sebastian, will never grow tired of watching Lewis Hamilton's title triumph, still gives me goosebumps every time i watch it.

Loved having this on the red button last night: Japan 89 looked great in its 'true' form on an old 4:3 non-flatscreen TV (my old apartment had an LCD TV which was just wasn't the same). Although for some reason once the Grand Prix programme had stopped playing, it went back to the start and repeated the same race again. Bit confusing, but great to see and hear the drama build up and have James Hunt saying 'I don't think Prost would cause an accident but you never know' about two laps before the crash.

Another thing I noticed is how bloody ugly the 2008 cars were compared to the 1989 equivalents. They looked like piece of cubist art on wheels, all sharp appendages, millions of winglets and those silly grooved tyres. The 1989 McLaren MP4/5 was a masterpiece of effective simplicity.

Although I think F1 cars are now starting to resemble real racing cars again, they still have a long way to go!

Love the new Format, may I suggest though for the last race of the season rather than asking one of the drivers to pick their 5.
Ask the legend that is Murray Walker.
His catalogue of races seen would be great to delve into.

Watched a bit of the Prost / Senna Japanese GP (The Full coverage) this morning to check it had recorded from last night. Great Stuff and thanks for the broadcast.

All i can say is, ignore the complainers and keep up the good work. We all know you have to work within frustrating criteria that you can't really talk about on your Classic F1 Blog, but i accept that the only way you can justify this feature to your employers is that this feature ties in with the current F1 season (Current Countries for years 1 & 2 of Classic F1, and Current F1 Driver selections for Classic F1 year 3), therefore i can see that showing random old F1 races might be more difficult to justify - much as we'd all love it.

My only gripe is Freeview coverage and the 'Bandwidth' excuse, but you've pulled it out of the bag for the last 2 GP's, so well done.

If your thick skinned and the 主播大秀 fancy doing year 4 of Classic F1, i'm up for it.

Like monaco1982 I sat waiting for the 1990 Japanese GP on F1 Classics yesterday -from 6pm to 11.30pm -but only got 1989 followed by.... 1989. And I had blamed it on the chardonnay I was enjoying.... No 1998 Belgian GP either, just a jump to Brazil 2008. Same again tonight, so did Buemi change his mind or is this more dreaded 主播大秀 cutbacks? Incidentally, both Japan 1989 & Belgium 1998 have been shown on Classic F1 before, but not Japan 1990 which I haven't seen since watching it live on Grand Prix way back then. As the Classic F1 choices are now those of GP drivers, how about asking EX-F1 drivers / personnel what their choice would be, starting with Messers Brundle, Coulthard and, well OK, Eddie Jordan too ?

Surely the point of showing classic FI on freeview is to actually show the driver鈥檚 choices. Four hours watching the freeview stream tonight and no Belgium 98 or Japan 90. Instead we were treated to a 鈥渃lassic鈥� GP from last year that Sebastien Buemi didn鈥檛 even choose. You can always rely on the 主播大秀 to ruin a good idea.

I too was disapointed at the absence of the 1990 japanese gp and 1998 belgian gp, I can only hope that their absence may have been due to their involvement in one of the other drivers selections which is when they might be shown. Having followed classic f1 since its creation in 2009, I know that they had all been shown before, unlike some i don't mind, so surely no extra expence to have shortened them would have been made. Despite this I would still like to thank Andrew for getting some onto freeview again.

Just for a bit of balance, how about inviting drivers like Jackie Stewart for their choice of classic races? I'm sure he and others like him would bring a real mixed bag to the table!!

My respect has just gone through the roof for Mr Buemi. Brilliant choices, and nice to see someone picking races they are not in. We are all fans of the sport it would seem. Rather enjoyed watching this whilst eating my lunch today. Nice one Seb!

China '09: "here lies Honda F1, buried alive by the credit crunch. Hang on, what's this I see? A fist thrusting out of the ground! It's Brawn GP!" A quote from my 2009 season preview and when writing it I did have some idea that that fist may open up and throttle people. The opening two races of the season proved to be beyond my wildest dreams as a Jenson Button fan though.

China though proved to be a bit of a reality check as it was other drivers that took their turn to hit the headlines. The obvious one was Vettel and his win here pretty much completed the process of the F1 establishment having been blown to smithereens that season and while Brawn's glory turned out to be a short-lived shooting star, Red Bull and Vettel have just gone from strength to strength!

However, the guy that really impressed me in that race was Webber. This was his best F1 result up to that point and his duel vs Jenson was a great one! Ironically, when I asked an Aussie mate for a post-race comment on Webber's performance the response I got was something along the lines of "I've never been that bothered about Webber, I don't think he'll ever win a Grand Prix". Hmmmm...

Hats off to Seb Buemi for an excellent choice of real classic races, maybe my misgivings about the new format were slightly unfounded, or at least based on Seb Vettel's completely selfish choices....?! Michael Schumacher's choices last week were pretty impressive too.

When will the 主播大秀 let Karun Chandhok have a selection (or four), I'm sure his choices will be the best of all.

One thing that baffles me is the purported 'no repeats' policy. Like a parrot I'll say it again, I'd love to see a repeat of 2009's classic race selection, for those of us who missed them initially it would be a great chance to see some of the best ever races. For those who did see them, I'm sure they won't mind watching them again, many of those races were THAT good! Clearly the 'no repeats' rule no longer applies since many of the drivers choices are repeats, so how about it 主播大秀?

Could somebody tell me why didn't 主播大秀 show 1998 Belgian GP highlights from Wednesday to Friday? I watched 主播大秀 F1 Classic yesterday and 主播大秀 didn't show it only today but I couldn't watch it from the begining of it.

And I'm very sad...

1998 Belgian GP was showing on Wednesday afternoon and again on Friday, but yes it wasn't showing all of the time for some reason.
Unless anyone says differently, it was the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix that we didn't get to see at all this time despite it being Buemi's 2nd classic race he selected to be shown. I am giving the new format a chance, but when we are not even getting to see all the grand prix that the driver has picked its a bit of a shame. I'm just hoping it was an oversight this time and looking forward to the classics for the rest of the season.

I don't understand why don't show 主播大秀 all Highlights from Wednesday to today. So I couldn't record it, but I've got nearly all 主播大秀 F1 Classic videos. It isn't a correct decision from 主播大秀.

Otherwise I watched 1989 Japanese GP on Wednesday and they didn't show 1998 Belgian GP then after Japanese Grand Prix. What's more they showed Japanese highlights two times after each other.
